Residents of Northwood were not permitted to enter their homes while the operation was being undertaken. Other residents were told to stay inside and lock their doors. The Greenwich Public School was put into lock-down.

Initial reports suggested that the pursuit was in relation to an alleged armed robbery in McMahons Point.  A NSW Police Media Release has stated that they are still investigating whether the armed robbery and the pursuit are related.

A Black Audi A3 was seen speeding along Epping Road .

An eyewitness reported to ITC that at approximately 10.15am NSW police were seen trying to smash the driver and passenger front windows with batons in traffic on Epping Road. The car suddenly sped off down Longueville Road towards the shops, followed by 5 police cars.

The driver continued along Longueville Road and then proceeded along River Road. The first police car following the Audi had to slow down due to an accident at River Road. The police at first did not see that the Audi had turned into Northwood Road. A police car was waved down by an eyewitness who told the police that the Audi had turned into Northwood Road.

The Audi A3 was left outside a house in Northwood. The suspect attempted to hide the car behind some trees.
