A weekend of coffee, culture and fun in Lane Cove (must do events on 1 – 2 Nov 2014)

This weekend there is something for everybody in the Cove.  A coffee festival, music by the river and a family fun day.

Coffee Carnevale – Lane Cove Plaza 1 November From 9.30 am

Coffee_Carnevale

This event kicks off in the Plaza from 9.30 am.  Nearly every Coffee Shop in Lane Cove will be offering a special deal on Coffee and coffee related items.  Even coffee shops that are not located in the Plaza will be represented.  There is a buzz about this event from serious coffee people.  ITC has seen tweets and Facebook posts about this event from people all over Sydney.  It is also not just about quaffing coffee and ordering a skim milk double shot extra hot latte.  There are also some fun activities for the kids.

There will be live entertainment, roving performers and a latte-art barista competition. There will be a buzz (not just from the coffee) with stilt-walkers, Brazilian drummers, jugglers, facepainters and hula-hoopers all making an appearance on the day.

A variety of local and visiting stalls will be on-hand with coffee related products such as coffee themed food, paraphernalia and craft as well as in-store promotions in participating businesses. Amongst all of this will be barista demonstrations and coffee tastings – locals can also try their hand at some Latte Art or an Aeropress Brewer.

The afternoon will include a Latte Art Smackdown run by the Australian Specialty Coffee Association.  So make sure you come to the Plaza on Saturday for a fun filled day of events.

Even the groovy pink van from Stella Bella Home (located on Burns Bay Road near Agora) will be venturing up into the Plaza.

Lane Cove Occasional Care Family Fun Day – Saturday 1 November from 9 am – 12 pm

Many Lane Cove residents have used the Lane Cove Occasional Care facility over the years.  They would love you to come along and help them raise some funds.  There will be a jumping castle, cake decorating, playsand and much more.  Of course there will also be a snag sizzle (frankly it nearly unaustralian to hold a fundraiser without a snag sizzle!!).  Entry is free, so come along and have a fun morning.

Jack and the Beanstalk – Lane Cove Theatre Company  Final Two Performances
31 October 7.30 pm and 1st November 2.00 pm

Times are tough in the town of Lana Cové, but when our hero, Jack, and his mother are forced to sell their beloved cow to survive, they spark a chain of events the likes of which Lana Cové has never before seen. The least of their problems?

The gigantic magic beanstalk that has mysteriously sprouted in Jack’s front garden… Join Jack and his friends in this traditional musical pantomime as they fight against the monstrous, man-eating giants and the tyranny of the Sheriff to restore peace to the enchanting village of Lana Cové.

This play is written and directed by Sarah Edwards.  She is only in her twenties and she has packed the play with heaps of  Lane Cove references and political satire (yet the kids still love).  ITC’s favourite was the town Sheriff (a true pantomime villain and ITC could have sworn it was in fact Jane Lynch aka Sue Sylvester from Glee playing the role).  The performance on Friday 31st is dress up night – children who come dressed as Halloween characters could win a lucky door prize.
