Scott Sloan from Sloans of Lane Cove is making a difference for two reasons (well three if you count the clients walking out of his salon with a fab hairdo!!)
Salon Select Smiles for Starlight
Scott and his Sloan’s team have been working with the Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia for the last 4 years. Scott pioneered the successful Starlight Pop-up Salon project. This amazing project saw the Sloans of Lane Cove salon team visit hospitals around Australia to provide mini make overs to terminally ill children and adolescents.
This year, Scott went one step further and worked with the The Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) to develop the Salon Select Smiles for Starlight initiative. In May 2015, Hairdressing Salons were asked to add $1 to the price of every customer service. In an industry first, 300+ salons nationwide, accepted the fundraising challenge. Several other Lane Cove hairdressing salons participated in the programme.
Scott said “There are so many children in need of some sparkle at children’s hospitals around Australia and this was the hair industry’s chance to show that we care. This year the aim was for AHC to raise enough to grant 10 wishes. Next year? The sky is the limit.”

The final amount raised is still being calculated, however the Sloans team raised $3 000 (thanks to their Lane Cove clients). Nationwide, the aim was to raise $65 000, enough to grant ten wishes for ill children. By all accounts, it appears that this total will be achieved.
Lane Cove Shopping Night Out
In November 2013, Scott created the Lane Cove Shopping Night out. This event was created to showcase the Lane Cove Village shops and the benefits of shopping locally. Scott and his team worked tirelessly to bring together the Lane Cove Village shops to offer a stress free community party atmosphere. The event was so successful the Lane Cove Council continued the event in 2014.
