Fab Find Friday – The Match Box Project

After travelling around the globe, The Match Box Project has landed in Lane Cove!

“People Make Places” is the tag line for this intriguing art project, which was started by twin sisters Leanne & Naomi, and has come to Lane Cove until mid-October. The girls were invited by Lane Cove Council, as part of the local ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign.

Leanne & Naomi say “We are currently creating People Make Places, a project which brings people together to consider their own sense of place and celebrate and deepen mutual understanding of diverse rural and urban regions across the globe. To date 2,500 people from Melbourne, Sydney, Shanghai, Deniliquin, Mosman, Venice, London, Berlin, Edinburgh, Dubai, Adelaide, Cannes, Amsterdam and Paris are participating. They have created miniature matchbox impressions of what they wish to share with the world about where they live.”

Yes, Lane Covians, the project needs you! It relies on the participation of local residents. First step is to meet with the sisters, and you will be given your very own matchbox, inside which you create a scene which tells the world a little about the place you live and what you love about it. Once you have completed your individual project, you return it to them, and it will be added to the slowly growing Lane Cove Match Box collection – which is housed inside a special transparent briefcase.

Leanne & Naomi can be semi-regularly found in the old ‘Lane Cove Alive’ office, which is on the first floor, overlooking Lane Cove Plaza, near Blue Illusion and Zjoosh. They are also hosting pop-ups around the suburb, where you can collect or return your boxes. Details of these are regularly updated on their blog
