The A-Z of Lane Cove – M is for Markets

We love a market around these parts. And thankfully we don’t even have to leave the cove for our fix!

Every Sunday, from 8.30am till 1pm is the Lane Cove Farmers & Produce Market, which is held at Lane Cove Public School, on Longueville Road. The market isn’t as happening as it was a couple of years ago, but the newish operators are working on building it back up to its former glory. That said, there are still enough quality stalls to make a visit to this weekly market worthwhile.  The market operators have advised there will be a face painter and as the weather heats up a musician will be playing.  They are always looking for new vendors and if you know someone local who wants to sell cold drinks/smoothies of fresh juices.  In the lead up to Christmas the would love some good quality local gift stalls.  You can contact the markets via their Facebook page.

There are regular stall holders, selling organic fruit and veg, eggs, Over the Moon milk & yogurt, fish & seafood, and more. Naked Foods and Brasserie Bread are also weekly fixtures. On our last visit to the market, we chatted with a couple of the newer stall holders. There was the charming young couple who own Chefs Gone Wild, serving up delicious Belgium Waffles with a smile (and they are local, and ITC likers!); and also another local gal, who has recently started Ka-bloom Botanica, and is hoping to brighten our days a little, with her cut flowers and bespoke ‘living gifts’.

The other regular market ITC, is the Lane Cove Makers Market, which is held on the third Sunday of the month. This market is located at Lane Cove Plaza, and runs from 9am till 3pm.

The makers market is home to some wonderful artists and creatives, all of who ‘make’ the items they are selling. Some of the stallholders at the Makers Market are monthly fixtures, such as (ITC likers) Tim Blake the Jeweller and Sew Soft Furnishings , and the stunning paintings by artist Stephanie Elizabeth Artwork – we just love her turtle paintings in particular.

At a recent market, we enjoyed sniffing all the delicious smelling soaps and lotions from Ducks Cottage; felt uplifted by the inspirational Jill from Davis Design Studio Jewellery; and oohed & aahed at the magical scenes created by Pixie Dolls by Carmela. Loving Sydney Frangipani, and wish we could own one plant in every colour they sell. Also stopped by SEW SOft Furnishings and ApplecartCo for a sticky-beak. And we can’t forget to mention two local, and very talented mumpreneurs – April Mae Store and Two Shady Monkeys, who are also selling their creations at the Makers Market.

We would love to hear your thoughts on Lane Cove’s markets. What do you think they are missing? Do you venture to other markets beyond the cove?
