October was a busy busy month In Lane Cove with several new foodie places opening. The Plaza has a vibrancy that we have not seen for a while.
Indian Fusion Restaurant and Bar opened this month. It is located in the same arcade as The Cake Man, Pureflowers and Baker’s Delight. It is located in the old Red Chopsticks premises. Indian Fusion already has two restaurants in Pymble and Lindfield.
One of our trusty Roving Reporters filed this report:
“Today we decided to try this new restaurant on it’s opening day. Although the night was quiet with a few guests, we imagine that is Wednesday night and not everybody knew that it was opened. We ate (Lamb ke Chaapey) delicious marinated lamb chops very recommendable as an entré. (Chicken lolly pop) and the irresistible (Yakhni) the best one, full of flavor on your palate. And the best thing was the 20% off. We hope that more neighbors will try it because it’s worth it!! The staff was very friendly and made us feel comfortable!”
Fourth Fish opened in Lane Cove Plaza. We love the groovy blue chairs (they add a bit of colour to the Plaza). The Fit Out is very similar to the very popular Crown Street Fish Shop. There have been a few teething problems (probably due to the popularity of the restaurant).
Here is a review from a Roving Reporter.
“Just to share. We tried fourth fish on Saturday but couldn’t get in (try finding their phone number btw it’s 94274896). Just had dinner there tonight and had a great time, reasonable prices, super fresh seafood (I had the seafood basket and it was awesome with fresh oysters) and byo. The super friendly waiter was really accommodating with our kids and even brought out some water for our dog. We will be back and to be honest i almost didn’t want to share the phone number! Get onto this!”
Two Brothers is open for business. ITC likes the fit out. It has a Melbourne Laneway feel about it.
ITC has not had a chance to check out the food and service yet.
Stuart Leal Photography has opened in the store opposite Snowberry. Stuart wants to capture timeless family pictures, children and newborns in the comfort of his studio or on location. He also offers a package of personal branding images that you can use for all your social media needs. You can find out more about Stuart here.
Stuart also snaps a mean puppy portrait (omg omg Mr Doggy ITC is so going to have his photo taken, he is very photogenic, even if I do say so myself).
You First Beauty
You First Beauty is a new nail bar in town. They do not have the massage chairs (bummer). However they do have in place some hygiene procedures that are different to other nail bars. Each foot bath is lined with plastic. ITC has been told that a new piece of plastic is inserted for each client. You can also take up an option where they will keep your very own nail kit for you and only you. They also offer T2 tea and water. They have a loyalty programme for frequent customers. Their deluxe manicure includes a paraffin wax treatment. Their deluxe pedicure includes a hot rock treatment (wow wow wow).
We have had several reports from roving reporters that the You First Beauty is really putting the “man” in manicure. Well guess what ITC saw it for herself. Yes, You First Beauty is popular with both sexes. Where is YF beauty? They are located in the same arcade as Laughing Ganesha -Lane cove Pilates Connection MBE Lane Cove (not far from Iris & Lin) and Flight Centre. Here is a review from one of our Roving Reporters.
“I was lucky enough to have a free express manicure there yesterday by the sweetest girl, Natalie. (I had a free voucher). It felt so pampering and I saw how they take pride in cleanliness and hygiene with pedicure footpaths. They also dip hands in paraffin wax for softening and all in all it’s very professional with a membership program. Natalie did say that women bring their male partners and have manicures together”
The Lodge introduced a new menu last week. They will also be holding a fundraising breakfast once a month. Find our more here
The Source Bulk Foods will be opening soon in Lane Cove Market Square (they have taken over the Feet First premises and Mini Max premises). The hoardings are up and the fit out is taking place.
According to their Facebook Page
The Source Bulk Foods is Australia’s largest bulk food retailer. We stock the most amazing range of health foods, superfoods, grains, cereals, nuts, seeds, flours, oils etc all in bulk. We have over 400 products in each store! Our customers come in and scoop out exactly what they need so there is no packaging waste and less food waste. Our stores are about getting back to basics and shopping the way it should be without excessive packaging and plastic!
We (Paul & Emma Medeiros) left corporate Sydney in 2007 to pursue a sea change in beautiful Byron Bay. We purchased Edens Landing, a vibrant and busy organic fruit and veg store in Stuart St Mullumbimby. With a lot of love, passion and hard work we built the business up over the years and after noticing a gap in the market we opened the first ‘Source’ store next door to Edens Landing in May 2012. The store took off and less than 6 months later we opened our second store in Balmain in Sydney’s Inner West. The Source has gone from strength to strength and we now have over 14 stores around Australia and will have 30 stores open by the end of 2015!
We are extremely passionate about customer service and love to ensure that our customers leave our stores happy. We like to provide a relaxed old school environment where a chat is always welcome, a business with soul is what we are all about! We care deeply about the environment and do what we can to minimise our foot print on the earth. Buying in bulk is the best way to reduce waste and we are proud to bring no waste grocery shopping to stores all around Australia!
We are always interested in local products and love to support Australian growers and producers wherever we can.
We have two beautiful, lively boys who keep us laughing and apprecating the simple things in life and who remind us the importance of looking after the planet for their futures.
We are beyond grateful to all our treasured customers who support us. We are very excited and overwhelmed about the future of The Source and we can’t wait to share this journey with you.

Yoga Bowl celebrated 10 years in Lane Cove with a fundraising party on the Longueville Sporting Club’s famous greens. Mitch Gibson is the owner of Yoga Bowl and you can find out more about her here.
We asked Mitch why she started Yoga in Lane Cove.
“I started Yogabowl in 2005 wanting to bring safe, do-able Yoga classes to real people like you.
My Fitness background brought with it an awareness of the benefits of moving the body. What I didn’t expect were the benefits to my emotional and mental health & wellbeing that come with Yoga.
Yogabowl started with a simple timetable of classes run only during school terms. As my student’s needs and my vision for the business evolved, we diversified adding different styles of Yoga classes throughout the whole year, short courses, Yoga Workshops and Weekend Yoga Retreats.”
Laughing Ganesha celebrated their 8th Anniversary in Lane Cove on Saturday 24 October 2015. The Laughing Ganesha was recently voted, by ITC Facebook Fans, their favourite “exotic flavours of the world” restaurant. You can find our more about the winners of the ITC Foodie Awards here.
Jack & Co (located in the BP Servo in Northwood) celebrated 3 years. Hold on ( I hear you say) – they only opened this year. That is correct. They are new to Lane Cove. However their first store launched 3 years ago. Find out more about Jack & Co on their website.
