Hughes Park Lane Cove

If you are a regular reader of our blogs and Facebook Page, you would have previously read all about the new public green space and Community Gardens at Hughes Park, at 314 Burns Bay Road, Lane Cove West (catch up here).

Before we tell you about the fabulous play equipment, we thought we should tell you why the park is named Hughes Park.  The park is named after Billy Hughes, Australia’s wartime Prime Minister. Billy Hughes lived in Lane Cove at 6 Richardson Street East.

The new park has been the centre of some controversy, and complaints from the public, due to the lack of shade cover that has been provided. Council has suggested that the trees will eventually(!!!) provide adequate shade, but we think that shade sails should be compulsory with any new kids playground construction.

That said, the Hughes Park is a great addition to the area, and provides lots of fun for kids of all ages. The park was designed by Lane Cove Council’s landscape architects, and also includes a braille walk, fitness equipment and a community garden. The play equipment was created by Proludic.

A feature of the playground is Proludic’s award-winning Grafic Games play equipment including custom designed panels that provide a safety barrier to the concrete climbing wall. Graphics painted onto the climbing wall link with the graphics on the Proludic panels.

Proludic made a video of the play equipment at Hughes Park

How inviting does this colourful equipment look! Loving the ‘official’ names of the equipment too, such as the “Chickies Springer”, the “Little Train” and the “Tiboo Multi Play. And how good does that climbing wall look!
