Many of you who are avid followers of In the Cove, will know the ITC team has a Phd in coffee drinking.  We have sampled the liquid gold at every cafe in Lane Cove and Greenwich.  At last count we think there are 27 Cafes in Lane Cove.

So why is coffee good for you?

According to a recent article in the Huffington Post, drinking coffee can assist in reducing the damage that occurs in the Liver when overindulging in alcohol and food.  You can read the full article here.

This is indeed good news for the Lane Cove Coffee drinkers.  However before you say double shot, extra sugar and extra froth on my cappuccino, the article also says:

“Unfortunately, although coffee contains compounds that have antioxidant effects and anti-inflammatory properties, drinking a few cups of coffee a day cannot undo the systematic damage that is the result of being overweight or obese, sedentary, excessive alcohol consumption or drastically mitigate an unhealthy diet,” Heller said by email.

This is just one of the recent articles that have come out on the side of Team Coffee.

According to a recent article in the American Heart Association’s (AMA) journal Circulation  people who drink between three to five cups of coffee per day reduced the risk of dying prematurely from illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease or neurological diseases (such as Parkinson’s disease) and type 2 diabetes.

In a 2015 Swedish study published in Clinical Cancer Research, researchers discovered that breast cancer survivors who drank at least two cups of coffee per day had half the risk of breast cancer recurring compared to those who sipped less or none at all.

Lane Cove loves a Coffee

We know that Lane Cove loves a good coffee.  We even have a coffee carnivale.  The Lane Cove Council produced a guide to coffee shops in Lane Cove.  You can download it here.  It does NOT include all cafes in Lane Cove (for example Stain Lane Cove or Poseidon’s Catch)

In our ITC Foodie Awards, Story and Pablo & Rustys were neck and neck for the best brew in Lane Cove. Things might have changed since our survey.  Oliver Brown Lane Cove has come on the scene and they do a great cup (as well as a mean hot chocolate).  Nick over at the Cake Man has a very loyal following and he regularly tweaks his  machine to suit the different weather conditions.

If you are in Lane Cove West, you must buy a cuppa from Poseidon’s Catch.  The coffee is good but the little biscuits that come with up are so yummy.  This is the same with One Seed Patisserie – they serve really nice shortbread biscuits with their coffee.
