Welcome to our Lane Cove Week in Review, for the 13th to 19th June 2016.
This week saw more traffic issues (surprise surprise!), a new small bar opened, and yarn bombing appeared ITC (as pictured above).
Traffic
There has been continued issues with traffic this week. Last week we talked about an accident involving a truck losing its roof on Tambourine Bay Road, due to a speeding driver and an overhanging tree. (The offending tree was removed this week).
This week, there was another incident reported on the same stretch of road: A Lane Cove cyclist had an accident last night on Tambourine Bay Road. He was cycling home to a house in Riverview from his work in the CBD. He cycles regularly.
He was behind a car who had to slam her brakes on just near Fox St at the bottom of the hill. There was a car coming up from Riverview way too fast. The driver in front of the cyclist had to stop because there were parked cars on either side of the road.
The cyclist hit her car. Everyone is ok. Other driver kept going way too fast!

There were delays on Barwon Street, near Moore Street, on Saturday, as trees were being felled. Thanks to a Roving Reporter for sending in this photo.
Road Work
We had several complaints from Roving Reporters on Thursday night, regarding council roadworks on River Road. Not Happy Jan!
“I’ve just been told we have ALL night roadworks on river road with chainsaws and a wood chipper (running all night!!!!) we are in Standish St not even on river road and it’s SO LOUD it’s going to be along night.”
Transport
During the week, NSW Transport has released major changes to the NSW Bus Network including more routes and services. ITC has put a call into the NSW Transport media unit and asked for specific details on how this impacts Lane Cove (in particular the 251, more buses going through the Lane Cove interchange and the mess that is the buses departing the city between 5.00 and 6.00 pm). As you are aware Anthony Roberts and members of the NSW Transport rode the 251 with ITC and saw first hand the congestion on the bus and the interchange. We will update you when further is known.
New Small Bar opens ITC
Much excitement this week, with the opening of BAR BLAQ on Friday night. The new bar is located on the 1st floor of the ‘Cake Man Arcade’, overlooking the plaza. This winter they will have an open fire on cold nights.
Early reviews are favourable, with one ITC Facebook fan saying:
“Tried it last night, cool vibe, good wine menu with very well priced wines by the glass at $6 and bottles around $26. Cocktails were $10. My friend had a daiquiri but said it was watery. As its a hospitality training school staff were very plentiful and very attentive, offered to make her another one on the house and thanked her for her feedback. Hope it takes off. Good luck to them, I’ll be back.“
More Development Coming
Thank you to a roving reporter who sent us a picture of the Sold sign for the church property on the Pacific Highway near the Great Northern Hotel. The church is protected by a heritage order. However, this site will be redeveloped. We hope that the developers allow Permapatch (the community garden) to stay on site. The church hall is also used for community events like the Repair Cafe.
Stop Press
In possibly the biggest news this week, Mr ITC went clothes shopping at GazMan Clothing Lane Cove. He so loves to shop NOT.
Le Simpatic O French Restaurant is currently closed for renovations and re-branding! It is due to re-open on the 12th of July. Any guesses on what the new name will be?
Crime Report
Between 11pm Thursday 2nd June and 5am Friday 3rd June five vehicles were broken into along William Edward Street at Longueville. Small amounts of cash and an iPad were among the items stolen.
Between 7pm Thursday 2nd June and 7.45am Friday 3rd June two vehicles at the same location on River Road West Longueville were also broken into with only a small amount of cash taken.
Between 9:00am Thursday 2nd June and 8:30am on Friday 3rd June a vehicle located on Borambil Place Longueville was broken into with two iPods, cash and sunglasses taken.
Between 11.30pm Thursday 2nd June and 7.45am on Friday 3rd June two vehicles parked on Lucretia Avenue Longueville were also broken into with an iPad and cash taken.
Between 8pm Thursday 2nd June and 8am on Friday 3rd June three vehicles were broken into along Austin Street Lane Cove. Again a small amount of cash and sunglasses were stolen.
All steal from motor vehicle offences were carried out by unknown persons and by unknown means. Anyone with information pertaining to these steal from motor vehicles are urged to contact Chatswood Police.
Police remind the community about the importance of not keeping personal items in their vehicles. In the event that your vehicle is broken into, avoid touching any surfaces of your vehicle and contact 131 444 (Police Assistance Line) to make a police report.
Car Theft as told by ITC Roving reporters
We have had reports this week of two white Landcruisers stolen – one in Lane Cove North and one on Burns Bay Road (South of Penrose).
One of the Roving Reporters told us:
My husband’s white Landcruiser was stolen within the past week; it was parked legally in Lane Cove North. Please warn any 4WD owners in the area they may be some dodgy people out on the hunt stealing 4WD’s in the area especially those not in lock up garages!
