Lane Cove Garage Sale Season

Lane Cove Garage Sale

It’s spring. That means, spring cleaning and garage sales. The Lane Cove Council has now introduced an online index of Garage Sales in Lane Cove.  You can also register your garage sale on inthecove.com.au

How to Register Your Lane Cove Garage Sale

The Lane Cove Council is keen to promote Garage Sales as a way of diverting waste from landfills.  After all one man or woman’s trash is another person’s treasure.

To list your garage sale on the Lane Cove Council’s site just click this link.

The Lane Cove Council has put together some terrific downloads such as a promotional poster to advertise, hints and tips for a successful day and price tags for easy labelling of items.

Garage Sale Trail

Garage Sale Trail is the fire-breathing godzilla of all garage sales. It’s a giant purpose-driven marketplace powered by 150 local councils and the amazing people of Australia. For some reason, Lane Cove Council does not participate in Garage Sale Trail.

Australia’s biggest weekend of garage sales is happening around the country on Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 October 2017.  Put your sale on the Trail or search for bargains and unique treasure.

Lane Cove is a non-participating council area, however, there are up to 10 free spots available for Lane Cove residents to register a sale and get involved. As a not for profit program Garage Sale Trail relies on the councils of Australia to make the program possible and make it free to participate. This means that without council’s involvement, they are unable to support the program to its full extent.

If you are interested in getting Lane Cove Council involved, here’s how you can help.

Alternatives to Garage Sales

If you are not a garage style type of person – no sweat. There are other ways to get rid of your unwanted goods. Lane Cove Council provides each resident (which includes people who are renting) with four free garbage pick ups a year. Pre-booking is required. You can make an online booking or phone the Waste Solutions Hotline on 1300 655 006.

Repair Cafe

Before you throw something out, ask yourself can it be repaired.  If it can then you may want to consider attending the Repair Cafe.  This Cafe is held in Lane Cove on the first and second Sunday of each month.

A group of Lane Cove residents have initiated a Repair Café to help address the growing amount of useable items going to landfill. The volunteers want to pass on practical skills and experience to others to ensure that things are used for longer, whilst also showing how satisfying, fun, and often easy, it can be to repair something.

Volunteers will help you fix the following: jewellery, ceramics, shoes, toys, clothes, zips, bags, as well as sharpening kitchen knives, secateurs and pruning tools; small woodwork repairs, household battery-operated items.

The Lane Cove Repair Cafe is located at the Uniting Church Hall on the corner of Pacific Highway and Mowbray Road (across the road from the Great Northern Hotel). There’s parking behind the church. It’s open the first two Sundays of the month from 1pm to 3pm.  Find out more here.

It was inspired by the worldwide social enterprise initiative www.repaircafe.org
