Daylight Saving Starts on 2 October 2022

Daylight Saving starts this weekend. According to the NSW Department of Justice website we are supposed to move our clocks forward at 2.00 am on 2nd October 2022.

In practice, most of us either turn the clocks forward before we go to bed or when we wake up.

The start of Daylight Saving is a good time for organisations like the NSW Police and NSWFR to draw attention to some “housekeeping” matters.

Double Demerit Points

It’s a long weekend and also the school holidays. If you are away, please drive carefully this weekend, the roads might be wet, and there will be heaps of traffic – we want to see you back in Lane Cove and sipping coffee with ITC!!!

The Police have issued the following statement:

NSW Police are urging motorists to stay alert, plan ahead, and take care on the roads as they launch Operation Labour Day 2022 ahead of the long weekend.

Police will be deployed throughout the state for the duration of the annual road safety enforcement operation, which commenced at 12.01 am on Friday, 30 September 2022 and concludes at 11.59 pm on Monday, 3 October 2022.

Check Your Smoke Alarm

Traditionally at the start of Daylight Saving, firefighters encourage NSW residents to test their smoke alarms and change the batteries if necessary.

For assistance with the installation of smoke alarms and changing their batteries contact your local fire station and organise to have a Safety Visit conducted

What is a Safety Visit?

During your Safety Visit, NSWFR will attend your home and check that you have working  smoke alarms, that they are in good working condition, and are installed in suitable areas. If you do not have one, firefighters will install a long-life battery-powered smoke alarm as well as replace existing smoke alarm batteries all at no cost. With your permission, firefighters will also ask you to show them around your home and property. This will allow us to give you personalised fire safety information including, but not limited to;

Firefighters will also provide advice on a fire escape plan in the event of a fire occurring in your home and how to call Triple Zero (000) to report emergencies.

Who might benefit from a Safety Visit?

Everyone can benefit from a Safety Visit, however there are people within our communities that are statistically at higher risk of incidents occurring, including:

  • Over 65’s.
  • Those who live alone.
  • People with limited mobility, hearing impairments or vision impairments.
  • Residents who are supported by carers, family and friends.
  • And anyone with English as a second language.

This service is not available to landlords in untenanted premises, for landlords responsibilities please refer to Division 7A of Part 9 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 [external link] for more information.

The Lane Cove Fire Station is actually located in Artarmon.

In an emergency, you should always dial Triple Zero (000). However if you would like to contact Lane Cove Fire Station for advice on smoke detectors, the number is 9901 2420.

ITC is not making any judgement but one of our most popular Facebook posts way back in 2015 was a picture of two of our local Firefighters from the Lane Cove Fire Station. Over 220 people liked the photo below and many many many comments (all with a similar complementary theme) were made. So if you want to make these two blokes happy you better check/replace your Smoke Detector. (By the way we are just going to keep using this photo until we find some more Fire Personnel wandering around Lane Cove).
