Will Lane Cove Cafes Slash Smashed Avocado Prices?

ITC is a big Bernard Salt fan.  We follow him on twitter.  On the weekend he wrote a very funny article about Smashed Avocados.

For those of you who are not familiar with Bernard Salt, he is a well-known advisor, speaker, author, columnist, and social observer with an expertise in demographics.

In Bernard Salt’s weekend newspaper column, he suggested young Australians should be spending less on breakfast and instead be saving for a home deposit.

“I have seen young people order smashed avocado with crumbled feta on five-grain toasted bread at $22 a pop and more,” Salt wrote.

“I can afford to eat this for lunch because I am middle-aged and have raised my family. But how can young people afford to eat like this?”

Who would have thought that this article would create such a fuss.? Well, it has.  The article has resulted in hipster cafes all over Australia discounting the smashed avo dish.  The  Smashed Avo is now being nicknamed The Retirement Plan, Avonomics and The Baby Boomer.

Now ITC has eaten numerous smashed avo dishes in Lane Cove (and enjoyed them).  Have I been doing this at the expense of paying off our mortgage?   Millenials argue that they will never own a home (and definitely not in Lane Cove) so why not have an indulgence such as smashed avo on toast?   There is a point to this!!

ITC’s view is that life is too short, not to enjoy a few indulgences now and again.  So go forth and have your smashed avo.  There are plenty of places in Lane Cove where you can enjoy them.  Here is just a sample of smashed avo (or avo) enjoyed in Lane Cove over the last six months.

A big controversy over the humble avo, but don’t get us started on the Lane Cove #bantheboard controversy. Eating off chopping boards and sipping out of mason jars is now so 2015.
