Your Chance to see Sporting Legends in Lane Cove

On Monday 18th March Lane Cove will be awash with sporting legends.  Come along to St Ignatius College Riverview to see the Riverview 1st taking on a Celebrity IX in a T20 Charity Cricket Match in conjunction with St Aloysius College.

You will see Aussie cricketer Ed Cowan, Rugby greats George Gregan and Jason Little and other talented sportsmen. (fun fact ITC’s brother played in the same under six cricket team as Jason Little – will he remember ITC?)

The whole Lane Cove Community is invited to bring their family and friends from 3.30pm to watch the sporting legends in the T20 match.  There will be a snag sizzle.

The T20 Match will be held on the hallowed turf of the Riverview 1st Oval.  This Oval is really the closest you will get to Lords in Lane Cove.  One former school principal told the boys that you should treat the Oval like you would treat the best room in your house.

If you are not familiar with Riverview, here is a map of the grounds.

The funds raised will be donated to  Redfern Jarjum College. The College’s mission is to educate urban Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who are not participating or coping in mainstream educational settings as a result of their domestic circumstances. The school serves boys and girls aged between 4 and 13 from Kindergarten to Year 6 and fees are not charged for tuition. The school aims to, among other things, alleviate the social, emotional, behavioural and health disadvantages of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children so that they can return to mainstream schooling, and to provide opportunities for them to pursue secondary education. Jarjum offers an alternative to mainstream primary schooling, with an emphasis on providing a cultural education program through which students can explore and develop strength in their own cultural identity.

Now in its 10th year, the charity match has raised over $250k for Jarjim and its sister organisation Life for Koori Kids, contributing to the overall operational costs of Redfern Jarjum College, including;

  • transport to and from school
  • the provision of four meals a day as part of our health and wellbeing program
  • school materials including books, stationary, ICT hardware
  • access to excursion programs
  • supporting access to health services where those costs are not supported by government grants
  • the cost of participation in some cultural and curriculum programs such as drama, language classes, creative arts, Science programs, swimming etc
