Lane Cove Week in Review – 8 to 14 May 2017

Welcome to our Lane Cove Weekly Review for 8 to 14 May 2017.

Lane Cove Property Prices

An interesting article on Lane Cove Real Estate appeared on News Limited websites this week.  The headline was: Lane Cove units providing better capital growth than rental yield.  The article only provided stats on one property.   If this is correct, it could be one of the reasons why many Lane Cove apartments are purchased and remain vacant for a long period of time. Why put a renter into an investment property that (no matter how good the tenant is) will result in wear and tear on your property? This may eventually lead to a tight rental market. It also has an impact on supply and demand in Lane Cove and housing affordability for first home buyers.

Lift Renovations at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre

Lane Cove Aquatic Centre have advised that, during May, they will be replacing the lift in the centre.

This means that the lift unfortunately will be order for approximately 6-8 weeks. We look forward to this work beginning as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Lane Cove Traffic Management Plan

On Saturday morning, Lane Cove Councillors showcased their proposed traffic management for Lane Cove Village.  Interested residents were invited to meet with Lane Cove Councillors and walk around the Streets where changes are mooted. You can view Council’s recommendations here.  The Lane Cove Council will vote on adopting the new Lane Cove Traffic Management Plan at tomorrow night’s Lane Cove Council meeting.

Very short notice of the Saturday morning meeting was given.  The notice was given by Email to everyone who responded to the council’s Lane Cove Traffic Plan Survey.  Unfortunately, there was a privacy issue as the Email disclosed the email addresses of everyone who answered the survey.

Lane Cove Council Amalgamation

For some Sydney Councils, the fight against amalgamation continues all the way to the High Court.  It’s still possible that Lane Cove will not merge with Ryde and Hunters Hill.  The Lane Cove Council will be voting on Lane Cove Council’s amalgamation strategy at tomorrow night’s Lane Cove Council Meeting – details are here.

Crime and Incident Report

Each week LAC North Shore publish a list of local crimes on their Facebook site.  The report did not include any Lane Cove incidents this week.  Concerned residents advised ITC about the following incidents: 2 break ins , 1 attempted break in, 1 car theft and 1 bike theft  Be alert not alarmed – the power of social media is letting you know about incidents that you may never have known about before.

Yallambee Road – Riverview

A resident saw a car with a man of, middle eastern appearance, parked in the drive. When the resident approached the car and enquired who he was and how he knew their elderly neighbour he couldn’t answer any questions. The resident then contacted the police due to the suspicious behaviour. It seems another person was in the house ransacking the home when the resident approached the man in the car.

Cope Street Lane Cove West

Two men broke into a home at Cope St Lane Cove. They were seen by neighbours. They were described as two Anglo Saxon looking males, in their 30s. The taller of the two was a little larger and had a beard.

Kallaroo Road Riverview

Intruders were interrupted by residents on Tuesday morning this week at 4 am. The intruders set the outside sensor light on and that must have scared them. In the morning the residents realised the intruders had gone through their car in the driveway right outside their bedroom. Nothing was taken.

Penrose Street

A car was stolen from Penrose Street – the car was parked on the street.

We all need to be vigilant and look out for each other and report anything suspicious.

Lane Cove

An expensive bike stolen was stolen from a Lane Cove garage.  The bike was a GIANT bike (that is the brand not how big it was).
