Greenwich Hospital to be Upgraded

HammondCare (the owners of Greenwich Hospital) have announced they will be upgrading Greenwich Hospital.  Their long-term goal, since taking over the hospital in 2008, was to develop and upgrade the hospital to better deliver quality of care.

Upgrade Plans

HammondCare has developed a master plan which includes the following:

  • Replacement of the current hospital with a state or the art hospital with 72 inpatient beds;
  • An aged care facility;
  • A 15-bed hospice;
  • Construction of up to 70 seniors housing units;
  • Improved parking and access; and
  • Preservation of Pallister House.

HammondCare intends to develop a campus that will allow for care that integrates services spanning aged care, frailty and dementia care, older persons mental health, neurological and cancer rehabilitation and palliative and supportive care.  HammondCare believes this model represents an Australian first in sub-acute care.

Preservation of Pallister House

Pallister House is listed on the NSW State Heritage Register.  It is on the register as evidence of residential development and the suburbanisation of the Municipalities of Lane Cove, Willoughby and North Sydney. The house is a rare example of a late Victorian Gentleman’s residence within Greenwich.

Greenwich Hospital Community Engagement

HammondCare has advised that at every stage, there will be community engagement.  An information session will be held on 2 November 2017 between 5 – 7 pm at Greenwich Hospital where the designs and plans will be revealed.  If you wish to attend please advise Karen Ingold by email [email protected]

It’s good to see that improved parking and access is on the agenda.  The hospital is located at the corner of St Vincents Road and River Road West and is a notorious blackspot (listed in the top ten accident spots in Lane Cove).

Senior Housing Units

Part of the redevelopment will include construction of up to 70 seniors housing units. This type of redevelopment is part of a trend in Lane Cove.  This will be the third residential seniors’ housing project announced in the last two years.  The other developments are:
