Lockdown Activity – Lane Cove Tree Trail

The Lane Cove Council  Tree Trail Project is an excellent activity while we are limited to our LGA or 5 km from your home for exercise.

The aim of the Lane Cove tree trail is to encourage the community to value, enjoy and conserve local trees.  There are currently three tree trails, which can be walked or cycled.  It’s a brilliant way for Lane Cove locals to discover local trees. Some of the trees you’ll see on the trail may be very familiar to you and others could be a new discovery for you.

If you have a particular tree you love, you can nominate it as one of your favourite Lane Cove Trees.

Three Lane Cove Tree Trails to Explore

Plaza Tree Trail – 1km (walk)

Stringybark Tree Trail – 2km  (walk or cycle)

Riverview Tree Trail – 3km    (walk or cycle)

A map is available for each trail.  You can download the map here.

The direction guides have now been updated to look like this

Lane Cove Village Plaza Tree Trail

This trail is a short 1 km walk on mostly level ground and is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

The trail starts at the Lane Cove Plaza, continues along Burns Bay Road, to Tambourine Bay Road, left on Sera Street, through the Sera Street Reserve, left on Austin Crescent, left on Austin Street up to Longueville Road and left back to the Plaza.  You will even see a tree fit for a Queen (yes Lane Cove Council planted a tree in commemoration of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002).

Stringybark Tree Trail

The Stringybark Tree Trail is a 2km moderate walk or cycle in Lane Cove North.  The route starts at Lane Cove Plaza, crosses Epping Road, follows Parklands Avenue and takes you through Stringybark Reserve and along pleasant tree-lined streets.

Riverview Tree Trail

The Riverview Tree Trail is both a walking and a cycling trail of 3km through Riverview.  The route starts at the Lane Cove Plaza leading to and including Tambourine Bay Reserve with beautiful water views.

Why is it important to protect our Trees?

Lane Cove is called Leafy Lane Cove for a reason.  If we don’t protect our trees we will lose some of our heritage.

There are so many benefits to living in a tree-lined suburb. The Federal Government announced it would be implementing a tree canopy quota after reviewing research which found trees were an effective way of cooling down suburbs and breaking up urban heat islands.

According to the Institute for European Environmental Policy people who live close to trees and green spaces are less likely to be obese, inactive, or dependent on anti-depressants.

Other benefits include:

Noise Pollution Control;
Shade;
Air Cleaning;
Oxygen is produced;
Property values increase; and
Soil erosion prevention.

If you are looking for something to do, try walking the Lane Cove tree trail or at least hugging your favourite tree.

Lane Cove Council Election Survey

The Lane Cove Council elections will be held this year. We want your feedback on what issues candidates should be talking about and also if you want us to hold a zoom candidates meeting. We held a forum last time, and it was packed, and residents got to ask some excellent questions.
Help us by filling out this survey, and you could go into the draw to win a $50 Lane Cove Gift Card.
