RMS Ignores Lane Cove Community Feedback on Burns Bay/Centennial Av Clearways

In December 2017, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) announced new and extended clearway hours on the Centennial Avenue and Burns Bay Road corridor between Epping Road and Victoria Road.

After the announcement, the Lane Cove Community raised several valid issues which showed the RMS’s plans clearway times were excessive and unnecessary. Residents acknowledged that clearways would improve journey time but the enforcement times were an overreaction. The proposed clearway times remain in place much longer than any other clearways in Lane Cove.  Weekend restrictions are from 9 am to 6 pm.  The clearways operate on both sides of the road.

The RMS made a presentation to the Lane Cove Council where many residents and councilors queried the extended clearway times and asked the RMS to review feedback from local residents.  The RMS advised they were not seeking comment on the clearways.

Why were Lane Cove locals not permitted to give feedback?  In July 2017 the RMS asked for feedback when new clearways were proposed for Eastern Valley Way.

Lane Cove residents tried to provide feedback but the RMS has ignored all feedback and their response is to prepare FAQ’s which makes it very clear that the RMS want standard clearway hours across the NSW road network and they will not look at “local issues“.

The RMS has advised their aim is to improve journey times.  The biggest impact on journey times on this stretch of road is the poorly planned intersection at Penrose Street and Burns Bay Road.

An RMS spokesperson advised ITC “there are no current plans for work at the intersection of Burns Bay Road and Penrose Street at Lane Cove.”

You will see from this video below the bottleneck is along a stretch of road where cars are not parked due to no stopping zones (so in essence already a clearway).  How will the new clearway times along the remaining section of the road ease this blockage?

The new clearways will be introduced in March 2018.
