Australia Day 2019 in Lane Cove

ITC loves Australia Day!  This year Australia Day falls on a Saturday however the official public holiday is  Monday 28th January 2019.  It’s unAustralian not to love a long weekend.  All the activities below (unless otherwise stated are on Australia Day 26th January 2019).

Australia Day Lane Cove Shops, Cafes, and Restaurants

This year Australia Day falls on a Saturday however the official public holiday is  Monday 28th January 2019. Both Woolworths and Coles will be open on Australia Day and the Australia Day Public Holiday.  All cafes and restaurants in Lane Cove will be open on Saturday 26th January 2019.  Many restaurants in Lane Cove close on a Monday so they will not be open on the Australia Day public holiday.  We will publish a list of coffee shops etc open on the Monday public holiday very soon.

Yoga on Australia Day

Start the day with a spot of Yoga with Yogabowl.  No need to be a member just come along and enjoy Yoga with a treetop view with Yogabowl located above the Lane Cove Tennis Club.  They have one class at 8 am (stronger/intermediate 75 minutes) and then 9.30 am ease into Australia Day with Gentle Yoga.  Details here.

Australia Day Celebrations at Lane Cove Plaza and BBQ

Lane Cove Council are holding a special Australian Citizenship ceremony in the Plaza on Australia Day, with various VIP’s in attendance. The ceremony welcomes spectators, and the council invites everyone to “Come and celebrate everything that is great about being Australian!”

There will be live entertainment and a BBQ too. All welcome. From 10am – 1pm.

The Ceremony features a range of guest speakers and concludes with a special presentation of Citizenship Certificates by Lane Cove’s Australia Day Ambassador Samantha Harris.

This event features the music of Tambourine Bay Winds Symphony and is followed by live entertainment from the Jack Thompson Twins from 11:00am – 1:00pm.   The Jack Thompson Twins celebrate the music of the sixties and seventies with some new chart hits thrown in. They may not be twins in real life but they manage to perform as if they were! Sit back and enjoy a range of Australian classics while enjoying a sausage sandwich purchased from the fundraising BBQ run by Rotary Club of Lane Cove and 1st Lane Cove Scouts.

Sail into Australia Day with the Lane Cove 12 Ft Sailing Club

!f you are a keen sailor or even amateur sailor and you want some fun on the water why not pop along to the Sail into Australia Day Event at the club – if you have not sailed for a while you might like to go down and have a go. If you don’t have a boat Sabot boats are available on a first come, first served basis. More details here.  This is the longest running regatta in Australia.

The Alcott will have a DJ on Friday and Saturday Night with Sunday Sessions by the Mary Cowell Duo.  They will have a special Australia Day Themed Trivia night on the Monday Public Holiday.  Plenty to do at The Alcott over the Australia Day Weekend.

The Fireworks are at Circular Quay – you might be able to see some of the fireworks from a vantage point in Longueville but more likely to see them from Manns Point in Greenwich.  There will be no fireworks on the Bridge.  At 9.15pm there will be Spectacular finale with live musical medley of Australian classics synchronised with jet skis, flyboards and a breathtaking lighting and fireworks display.

Have an early meal at one of our Lane Cove restaurants and then tune in to ABC TV at 7:30 PM to watch Australia Day Live 2019 from the comfort of your couch.

Lane Cove Tennis Celebrates the Australian Open During the Australia Day Weekend

Lane Cove Tennis is supporting the Summer of Tennis and hosting an Open Season event for all ages on Sunday 27 January 2019 between 9.00 am and Midday.
