Man Charged For Making Threatening Phone Call to Lane Cove MP Anthony Roberts

Yesterday at 4pm a 58 year old man was arrested at his Hornsby home unit after investigators from Ryde Police Area Command commenced an investigation into a report of a threatening phone call made to Lane Cove local member and Minister for Corrective Affairs Anthony Roberts’ office.

After the suspect was arrested, he was taken to Hornsby Police Station and charged with using a carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

The man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday 2 September 2019.

In the Cove spoke to Anthony Roberts today who advised that a significant phone call which threatened the safety of his family was made to his electorate office.  The threatening call was taken by one of Mr Robert’s staff.   Due to the nature of the call Mr Roberts had no alternative but to refer the matter to police.  The caller did not specify why the threats were being made.

It is suspected that the calls were  linked to the Mr Roberts’ statements about the bill to decriminalise abortion.

One of Mr Roberts colleagues, Tanya Davies the member for Mulgoa, received a voicemail two weeks ago in which a man allegedly said “I’ll slit your throat” if she did not “**** off”.  The man also allegedly said “leave the ***ing  situation in women’s hands”.

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 47-year-old man at a home at Kemps Creek about 5.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 14 August 2019) in relation to the calls made to Tanya Davies

He was taken to Penrith Police Station and charged with using a carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

The man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Penrith Local Court on Monday 19 August 2019.
