Start Planning a Trip to the Lane Cove Post Office for Your Christmas Deliveries

Yes, we know it’s very early to mention the “C” word, Christmas, but this year due to another “C” word – COVID19, Australia Post is urging its customers to start sending Christmas mail early.

Who knows when all state borders will open and there will be no international travel for a while, so it looks like a NSW Christmas for many.  Last week Simon Birmingham, Federal Tourism Minister told Australia that the USA and Europe will not be on our travel list for a while (unless there is a coronavirus vaccine).   We are also still waiting to see when the New Zealand travel bubble will eventuate.

A COVID Christmas is likely to involve sending presents rather than hand-delivering them.

Send your gifts early

Australia Post has one simple message – send your gifts early.

The following message was posted on  Australia Post’s website.

“We’re working hard to deliver your letters and parcels, but delivery for Christmas will take longer this year as we manage the impacts of COVID-19 and more parcels than ever before.

Sending as early as possible, and by the dates advised following, means your letters and parcels will have the best chance of arriving in time for Christmas. We’ll still deliver items sent after these dates as quickly as possible, but it will be difficult to get them to their destinations by Christmas.”

At the end of this article, we have set out the deadlines for international and domestic mail for pre-Christmas Arrival.

Lane Cove Post Office

The Lane Cove Post office opening hours are here.  Since COVID19 they have not been opening on a Saturday morning.  Greenwich Post Office is open on a  Saturday morning.

Unashamed Plug

Many Lane Cove residents have told us that our Lane Cove Tea Towels are the ideal gift to send overseas to a loved one who may be missing Lane Cove.  They are easy to send, and you don’t need to mortgage the house to pay for postage.  Our Tea Towels are available at Be.U Natural in the Lane Cove Arcade.

Receiving International Deliveries

Australia Post continues to receive and deliver mail and parcels from international postal operators, but there are delays from most destinations.  In the Cove was contacted by the UK mother of one Lane Cove resident asking if parcels were taking longer to be delivered. She had sent a hand made gift to her son, and she was worried it had been lost in the mail. Her son had not mentioned he had received the gift, which he normally would.  We told her not to panic as international parcel deliveries are taking longer to get to Australia.
