Lane Cove Melbourne Cup 2020

Melbourne Cup is on Tuesday, the 3rd of November 2020

It is the race that stops a nation. Well, maybe it used to when it was run at around 2.45 pm (back in the day), but a 3 pm race time means school pick-up time for many and an interruption to those champagne focused festivities.

This year, the race day may be different for some of us. There is no reason why we cannot still get dressed up, and have a COVID-19 safe celebration with a few friends or coworkers (always observing social distancing).

Just being a part of the Melbourne Cup hype is fun, and a great excuse to get together with a group of friends for lunch, gossip, and to show off your new fascinator.

We have put together a guide on Melbourne Cup In the Cove. We have so many options such as dining out, dining in, getting Melbourne cup ready and also the best food for the day after!!!!  At one stage it looked liked venues could not hold Melbourne Cup functions, but from Friday 23 October 2020, hospitality venues such as restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs can take group bookings of up to 30 customers per booking and the number of people per table increases to 30 customers.

With the easing of some COVID-19 restrictions from Friday 23 October 2020,  up to 30 people can gather in an outdoor public place.

A Cut Above Catering

A Cut Above Catering’s suggestions for Melbourne Cup Day….

Start with some Vegetarian Rice Paper Rolls with Asian Herbs served with Satay Sauce. These are light, fresh and full of flavour. Then some Prosciutto & Pine Nut Risotto Balls with Aoili, everyone’s favourite!

Next set up a table with our Asian Baked Salmon with Lemongrass, Ginger & Coriander and two salads – Kale, Orange & Avocado Salad + Snow Pea, Bean & Pea Salad with Feta & Lemon Dressing. Add some sourdough rolls and organic butter and lunch is served. This is all easy to eat with a fork so your guests can eat on their lap if they’re not sitting at a table.

Then follow with something sweet. You don’t need a lot just a morsel to satisfy those sweet cravings. White Chocolate Rocky Road with Pistachios and Turkish Delight is perfect and looks pretty too.

Then serve our cocktail sausage rolls at race time. How does this sound?

We will deliver to you the morning of the Melbourne Cup. Everything comes with heating and serving instructions, all you need to do is put on your platters and enjoy the day. Orders close this Thursday 1 November  5pm.

Pick A Winner?

In Lane Cove, we have a Melbourne Cup Expert called MelbourneCupMax (read more here).

Max is known around Australia as MelbourneCupMax possibly because his Melbourne Cup system for selecting the Cup winner has worked for 26 out of the last 31 years possibly because he has memorised the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place-getters for the last 100 100 Melbourne Cups.
