SUMMARY:Military History Talk: Rails West
DESCRIPTION:Lane Cove Library’s Military History Talk series turns to the railways of the Western Front on Tuesday 13 October. Lt Colonel (Rtd) David Deasey OAM RFD explores how moving supplies and materiel around a war zone shaped the First World War\, and the part Australians played in keeping the lines running. \nBy 1918 Australia had a railway regiment of about 1500 men\, with ten locomotives designed by the NSW Government Railways at work in France. Deasey will look at the role these companies played behind the lines. \nThe talk runs from 6:15pm to 7:45pm at Lane Cove Library. It is free\, but bookings are essential. \n\n\nImage caption: No. 6\, 8 Platoons and 4th Australian Pioneers moving camp by light railway\, April 1917. (Courtesy Australian War Memorial E00468)
