SUMMARY:Josephine Wants to Dance at The Concourse\, Chatswood
DESCRIPTION:A hilarious musical about self-discovery\, ballet\, hip hop\, and… a kangaroo. \nBased on the picture book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley\, this delightful musical is a must see! \nJosephine is a kangaroo who loves to dance. Her little brother\, Joey\, tells her kangaroos don’t dance\, they hop – but Josephine continues to point her toes and leap through the air. When a ballet troupe comes to the sleepy town of Shaggy Gully\, Josephine desperately wants to dance like the ballerinas in pink tutus and silk ballet shoes. \nOn the day of the first performance the Ballet Company is in trouble. SUMMARY:Newsies\, the Musical presented by Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview
DESCRIPTION:Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview will present\, Newsies\, the Musical this May 2025. \nSet in New York City at the turn of the 20th century\, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly\, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies\,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense\, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.  \nNewsies is inspired by the real-life ‘Newsboy Strike of 1899\,’ when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week-long action against Pulitzer\, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers. Timely and fresh\, the fictionalized adaptation of Newsies addresses age-old themes of social injustice\, exploitative labor practices and David-versus-Goliath struggles as the young learn to harness their power against a corrupt establishment. High-energy with non-stop thrills\, the stage version introduces eight brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film\, including “Carrying the Banner\,” “Seize the Day\,” “King of New York” and “Santa Fe.” \n Disney’s Newsies\, based on the 1992 motion picture\, features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast\, Aladdin\, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles\, Torch Song Trilogy).

SUMMARY:The Class of '85
DESCRIPTION:Artists\nHannah Fraser – Mezzo soprano\nSusannah Lawergren – Soprano\nMadeleine Easton – Artistic Director\nBach Akademie Australia\n\nThe odds are slim that three musicians of global significance could be born in the same year\, however in 1685\, that’s exactly what happened. Domenico Scarlatti\, George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach were The Class of ’85\, and their overwhelming influence on music cannot be overstated\, enduring to this day. Featuring Handel’s rich Concerto Grosso in B flat major\, Op.6 No.7\, Domenico Scarlatti’s ‘Salve Regina’ with mezzo soprano Hannah Fraser\, and J.S. Bach’s magnificent secular cantata ‘Non sa che sia dolore’ BWV 209 with soprano Susannah Lawergren\, this program celebrates the supreme craftsmanship\, versatility and imagination of these three titans of Western classical music.
