SUMMARY:KYDS: The Power of Connection- More Than Words
DESCRIPTION:Discover how to strengthen your relationship with your teen and keep the lines of communication open\, even when they seem to pull away. \nIn-person – Dee Why RSL:  Tuesday 23 June\, 6.30pm -8pm\nOnline: Friday 17 July\, 12.30pm -2pm\nOnline: Thursday 23 July\, 6.30pm -8pm \nKYDS provides accessible\, confidential counselling for young people aged 10-24 with no Medicare card\, GP referral or mental health plan required. Our counselling is free for those who need it\, made possible through the generosity of our community. \nHas your young person suddenly moved into a hoodie\, begun communicating mainly through grunts\, and developed a supernatural ability to empty the fridge? \nYou are not alone. And they are not broken. \nJoin us for this FREE parent information session designed to help you learn how to navigate the strange\, beautiful\, exhausting terrain of adolescence. Together\, we will explore what is happening in the adolescent brain\, why this period is sometimes called a second window of opportunity\, and how parents can stay connected without needing to get it perfect. \nWe will look at: \n• why adolescence can look so chaotic from the outside\n• what happens in the brain when young people become overwhelmed\n• why logic\, lectures\, and reassurance often do not land in the middle of distress\n• how parental intent and a young person’s experience can be very different things\n• the relief of good-enough parenting\n• practical ways to lower the temperature\, stay connected\, and repair after rupture. \nThis session is not about fixing teenagers. It is about understanding them more deeply. Because beneath the eye rolls\, shut doors\, and attitude\, many young people are still quietly asking: Am I still your pride and joy? \nExpect humour\, a touch of neuroscience\, but mostly practical tools and a lot of relief. \nSupported by Northern Beaches Council and Dee Why RSL.
