The guest speaker for the May meeting of the Lane Cove Historical Society will be Ian Burnet. Ian has spent thirty years, living, working and travelling in Indonesia and South East Asia generally. He is fascinated by the diverse history and culture of the region. This is reflected in his books, including The Tasman Map: Abel Tasman, the Dutch East India Company and the First Dutch Discoveries of Australia. The Tasman Map can be found in the vestibule of Mitchell Library on Macquarie Street Sydney. Ian Burnet will give a detailed account of the beautiful map and of the exploration by the Dutch which lay behind its construction.
