Lane Cove Historical Society proudly presents ‘At the Podium’ March 23rd

23 March 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us Tuesday night 7pm March 23 at Lane Cove Library for the first meeting of 2021 (and 2020!). We are excited to have guest speaker Prof Paul Ashton speaking about how Sydney grew to be known as ‘The Accidental City’.

Professor Paul Ashton is Professor of Public History at UTS. He is a specialist in Australian history, and has written extensively on local and community history. He is particularly interested in how towns and communities grow, and in the influence of town planning. He describes Sydney as an “accidental city”, revealing that Sydney is one city that emerged at times haphazardly, its development inevitably shaped by the early priorities of a convict settlement that in time became a free society.
