Master Class: Exploring new ways to create work in Printmedia

The class will include discussion and instruction about the materials and tools, (with scribes and sandpaper) you will use these tools to create imagery/marks in intaglio/drypoint. You will learn about stenciling with relief rolls, using paper shapes as positives and negatives and as offsets to build layers of colour and pattern. You will have the opportunity to print your intaglio imagery with stenciling effects. I will also talk about printmedia and its strengths and breadth as a contemporary art form.

Students will need to supply their own scribes as well as bring imagery to work with, this can be a detail from an existing artwork, drawing, photograph of their own or found image. They will also need to bring a stencil knife/scalpel, scissors and drawing tools, gloves and apron. Students will need to supply several sheets, (57cm x 76cm) of at least 250 gsm weight rag paper to print final work on. Velin Arche, BFK, Somerset, Hahnemuhle, Fabriano are brands of rag paper readily available. They also come in a range of colours, white, off white, cream, blue and grey.
