SUMMARY:Let's Go Bug Hunting at Stringybark Creek
DESCRIPTION:Families can get knee-deep in local science at Let’s Go Bug Hunting\, a free Lane Cove Council outing at Stringybark Creek in Batten Reserve on Saturday 7 November from 9:00am to 11:00am. \nKids dip-net the creek for water bugs and sift through leaf litter for the smaller critters that live on the bush floor. What they find is logged for Water Bug Blitz\, a national citizen science program that tracks the health of our waterways. Council supplies all the nets\, trays and magnifiers. \nThe session suits children aged 5 and up. Every adult and child needs their own ticket and places are capped at eight\, so book early. The exact meeting point is sent out after booking.

SUMMARY:FrogID Week: Discovering Willoughby's Frogs
DESCRIPTION:Ever wondered which frog is calling from your garden after rain? Dr Jodi Rowley from the Australian Museum explains all at Chatswood Library on Wednesday 11 November from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. \nDrawing on more than 20 years working with frogs\, Dr Rowley will talk about why frogs call\, how to identify different species and the threats they face. She will also introduce FrogID\, the Australian Museum’s citizen science app that lets anyone record frog calls on their phone and help scientists track frogs across the country. \nThe talk is part of FrogID Week and is hosted by Willoughby City Library. It is free but registration on Eventbrite is required.
