In her newly released book, Feminism and the Making of a Child Rights Revolution, 1969-1979, Macquarie University historian Dr Isobelle Barrett Meyering traces the role of Australian women’s liberation activists in furthering children’s rights and supporting their political empowerment. WAIG is a women’s group which values the diverse community of women and what women can achieve through collective experience, companionship and action.

The Women’s Action & Information Group (WAIG) is a not for profit community-based organisation which was established in 1983. WAIG was initially known as the Lane Cove Women’s Safety Group and began by organising self-defence courses as a means of empowering local women following a series of sexual assaults in the area.
Since that time WAIG has diversified to meet the needs of a range of women. Today, WAIG offers:
· A Monday discussion program which includes topics of a wide interest to women and which cover social, cultural, political and economic issues as well as regular book reviews
· An evening book group
· An annual seminar on a range of topics
· Community representation on community committees
· Information and referral support
Above all WAIG is a group which supports and connects women and which has over time maintained a significant participation in the women’s movement.
WAIG is committed to achieving social justice for women.
WAIG relies entirely on volunteers for its operation. As WAIG receives no external funding, membership is vital and your participation will help to keep the group going. In this way we can reach out to even more women.
You can contribute by joining the group if you have not already done so. We look forward to your involvement and thank all of our members over the years for their dedicated efforts
