New Aged Care Facility Planned for Longueville and Northwood Roads Lane Cove

Pathways Residences (who currently operate 4 aged care facilities in Sydney) have signalled their intention to build a 130-bed residential aged care facility at 274 and 274a Longueville Road and 4-18 Northwood Road Lane Cove. This site is currently occupied by six buildings (including the Speedway Petrol Station and the Riverview Vet).

Pathways Residences recently sent out detailed information to local residents. There will be a community information session at the Longueville Sporting Club on Tuesday 20th September 2016 from 6pm to 8pm.

This development is different to the planned aged care development at 266 Longueville Road. Details about that development can be found here.

Pathways Residences aims to integrate their facility into the Lane Cove community. They hope to achieve

“integration by co-locating our aged care accommodation above a street level community well-being precinct comprising neighbourhood shops and services, cafes and allied health uses.”

Before this development can begin, Pathways Residences must seek an amendment to the Lane Cove Local Environmental Plan 2099 (Lane Cove LEP 2009). This is why they need to undertake extensive community consultation.

The main issue for this development will be traffic management and parking. The buildings in this area do look a bit tired and run down, it would be great to revitalise another part of Lane Cove. However, if shops are planned then careful consideration is needed for traffic management and parking. Pathways Residences state that the average age of their residents is 88 years of age and they do not drive.

If you would like to be involved in the community consultation you can register by calling 1 800 825 586 during business hours. A website will shortly be launched showcasing the plans.
