Lane Cove Guide to Playgroups 2023

Are you new to the area and want to meet some local families, or have a baby and need to get out of the house and chat to some other parents or carers of little ones? How about going to a playgroup!?

Playgroups are beneficial for children, families and communities. We’ve have put together a list of all the playgroups in the Lane Cove Council Area. Let us know if we missed any that you attend/have attended.

Play provides all children with the opportunity to learn, experience, investigate and interact with the environment. During play children create meaning from the world around them. It offers the child experiences to think, plan, create, do and find out.

Experienced Play Leaders set up a range of activities to suit the needs of children, with an emphasis on child-initiated play supervised by a parent or carer in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Tips for enjoying playgroup: The aim is for adults and children to enjoy being together and to explore play in everyday life. A Playgroup Leader will greet you on your first visit and give you an introduction to the playgroup. We encourage carers to use the nametags for their children, that way we can all learn their names during the session.

Supervision: The Play Leaders facilitate play and all supervision is the responsibility of parents or carers.

Wear old clothes: Messy activities are an important and wonderful part of children’s play. Painting smocks are available.

Participation: During the storytime and dance along session, we encourage adults to participate, modelling behaviour is key to learning.
