Winterland is Coming to the North Shore – Get Your Skates On!!

The team behind the North Sydney Winter Festival

Have you ever watched a Christmas Movie and seen people skating around Rockefeller Plaza?  It looks like so much fun (and a bit romantic).  Guess what?  Lane Cove residents can have a go at skating and immerse themselves in all things winter related at Winterland during the July school holidays.

St Leonards Park North Sydney is being transformed into a winter wonderland for the school holidays with a 24m x 20m ice rink and snow slide.  But wait there is more …. a music shell.

There will be skating sessions throughout the day and evening, and learn-to-skate lessons at 9 am on Saturday mornings.

The 17-day winter festival opens on Friday 6th July with an ice show, featuring some of Australia’s best skaters. There will also be an opportunity to see experienced skaters during the session changeovers.

The Winterland formula has been developed over the last 8 years to create the right mix of casual family engagement.

The ice rink and other significant features within the park will be lit and styled to present a beautiful, exciting and sophisticated environment. The lighting is a very important element of the event as the event operates every night.

Off the ice, Winterland provides activities for the young and young-at-heart, including rides on traditional favourites such as a Ferris wheel and carousel. A European themed food village, with outdoor heaters, will sell traditional European treats: including German hot dogs, Dutch pancakes, and hot chocolate.

North Sydney Mayor Jilly Gibson said Council was delighted to be partnering with Stars on Ice to bring the event to the local area.

“Ice skating is a fantastic activity that people of all ages can enjoy and I am sure our local families will be keen to include it in their holiday schedule. But you won’t have to skate to enjoy Winterland, the lights, food and rides will make it a magical day or evening out for everyone.”
