Lane Cove’s New Must Try Activity – Bouldering at 9 Degrees Lane Cove

Lane Cove has a new activity to try and it’s completely different to any other activity in Lane Cove!!

9 Degrees Boulder Gym Lane Cove has opened in the Lane Cove West Business Park. You might be forgiven for thinking you’re in New York, instead of Lane Cove.  The fit out is a large industrial warehouse with high ceilings, huge fans, white walls, colourful handholds (pink, greens, bright yellow and even a striking violet looking colour).

What is Bouldering?

Bouldering is rock climbing without the ropes, heights, and hassle. Its physical problem solving.

Bouldering is an activity that anyone can try.  You don’t need to purchase special equipment (it’s all available for hire at 9 Degrees).  It suits any level of fitness and beginners are very welcome.  9 Degrees tends to attract people with a zero-sporting background – repeat zero sporting background.

Train your muscles without pain and get fit without repetition!  It provides both a physical and mental workout.  Bouldering is a very social activity and people enjoy climbing as it takes their mind off work or other stress.

How does it work?

At 9 Degrees, every climb, or ‘problem’, has been designed with its own solution in mind – the challenge is figuring each climb out! They have 9 levels of difficulty, each represented by a colour. Colours are set up as gym wide circuits with climbs varying in style so within the same grade you will find climbs focusing on balance, agility, strength or coordination. There are climbs to suit every level of fitness (including absolute beginners!).  The highest wall is 4.5m, constructed over specialised cushioned flooring.  The staff change the coloured handholds weekly.  So, you will never be bored.

How Do I start?

Come alone or with a group of friends or work buddies. No need to book, just come when they are open (hours below).  The staff at 9 Degrees Lane Cove are expert climbers and they will explain what to do within 30 seconds of meeting you. It’s that simple!

If you do want to come with a group, groups of 9 or larger are eligible for a 9% discount on their entry prices (if the group pays in a single transaction).  9 Degrees does not offer organised group events, but you’re welcome to use 9 Degrees as your venue.  Bookings are not required, but it is advisable to contact 9 Degrees before you arrive, so they are prepared for a large group.

What Do I need to bring?

Just come in your activewear (and we know there is plenty of activewear in Lane Cove) or any clothes you feel comfortable in when exercising.

Uni Students

9 Degrees Lane Cove is the perfect place for Uni Students to work off some stress and forget about exams.  Even better, if you attend Macquarie University, you could fit in a climb either before or after lectures.  A special rate for students applies on Friday.

Is this a Family Friendly Activity?

This activity is suited to a family who have older kids or teenagers (15 years and over).  How many times do you hear there’s nothing in Lane Cove for teenagers to do?  Well now there is!!  This would be the ideal place for teenagers to have fun and meet their friends (all persons under 18 must have a signed waiver before using the facility).  Who knows your teenager might end up representing Australia at the Olympics!! Rock climbing is one of the new sports added to the 2020 Olympics.

Fun Fact:  Many of the most successful contestants on American Ninja Warrior and Spartan have a rock climbing/bouldering background!!

Children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult at all times unless under the supervision of an approved trainer or coach. One adult supervisor is necessary per 2 children climbing.

Facilities

9 Degrees Lane Cove has plenty of bathrooms, showers, change rooms, lockers and storage for your gear while you are climbing and free Wi-Fi.  They also have a café with a barista waiting to take you order before or after you climb.

I’m Excited – What’s the Next Step?

9 Degrees Lane Cove currently has a 2-week unlimited trial membership for $49.00.  If you’re staying in Lane Cove during the Christmas/New Year period and want to have some fun, this would be the perfect time to enjoy some bouldering.

If you’re looking for something that’s a different, enormously fun, and a workout both physically and mentally then give bouldering a go.

If you think you know someone who would love bouldering, why not buy them a gift voucher for Christmas?
