2019 Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Art Awards

Did you know that Lane Cove has a very active arts community?  Not many suburbs have their own art gallery!!  Not only does Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Space hold a variety of exhibitions, they also hold a biennial art award.  Yes, the Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios’ biennial  Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Art Awards are back! This years Art Award will be exhibited in the Gallery from 6 December – 18 January 2020.*

What is the Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Art Award?

The biennial Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Art Award is a national prize established in 1981 to promote and support talented young emerging artists in Australia. Initiated by the Lane Cove community in honour of its long term resident Dr Lloyd Rees, the award has a total prize pool of $7,500, the main award being an acquisitive prize of $5,000 and a curated solo exhibition in the following year at Gallery Lane Cove. Applications are open to 18 -30 year old artists Australia-wide in the mediums of painting, drawing and printmaking.

The prize will be judged by a panel of three experts, lead by Guy Warren AM, OAM with two others to be announced in September.

How Do I Apply?

Applicants have the option of submitting one entry with a fee of $35 or two entries at $70. Further details, including artwork dimensions and submission process can be found in the Terms & Conditions document here. Applications open on 15 July 2019.

More Information About Gallery Lane Cove

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is a not-for-profit art centre located in the heart of Lane Cove. Funded in part by Lane Cove Council, it is managed by Centrehouse Inc., a local community arts organisation which has been operating art and language classes in Lane Cove for over 45 years.

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios comprise of two key areas of operations – the Gallery, which opened in 2012 and the Creative Studios, which operates from its newly refurbished premises since July 2018. The Gallery  presents a diverse exhibition program from modern to contemporary art, featuring works by emerging and established, local, national and international artists. It encourages the development and presentation of innovative contemporary art practices while continuing to support traditional approaches and disciplines.

In June 2018, the new Creative Studios facility comprising Painting/Drawing, Textiles, Printmaking and Ceramics studio spaces  was launched. Co-located in the same building as the gallery, it  offers three artist studio spaces for hire as well as residency programs. The rebranded arts centre runs a rich variety of term classes, workshops and masterclasses across the disciplines of painting (mixed-media, acrylic and watercolour), drawing, life-drawing, textiles (printing, embroidery, sewing, knitting, stitching), printmaking and ceramics.

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is committed to developing visual arts in Lane Cove and the greater North Shore through its integrated gallery and studios program. It encourages collaboration across regions and disciplines and fosters creative exchange.

*note: the gallery will be shut during the Christmas/New Year’s season from 22 Dec- 5 Jan and will reopen on Monday 6 Jan.

 

Fundraising Gala Dinner

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios is a local not for profit gallery and studio that runs wonderful exhibitions and school holiday workshops. They are holding a gala dinner on Friday 26th July to raise funds for the Gallery.

Please join them for an evening of art, food and entertainment to celebrate the first anniversary of our Creative Studios.
