Lane Cove Crime Update

Each week In the Cove is sent a crime report compiled by the North Shore Area Command’s crime prevention officer.  This week the report noted several Lane Cove incidents including an attack on a 79 year old Lane Cove woman.

Lane Cove West (E72325226) – Malicious Damage

A tree lopping business has reported malicious damage to a wood chipper costing around $10,000.  The business owner and two staff were working in Cullen Street on 23 September 2019. They left the wood chipper in Cullen Street overnight.  The owner of the wood chipper returned the next morning and found multiple holes in the gauges of the equipment and all the visible cords cut. The cords had also been thrown into the entry point of the chipper.

Lane Cove/Artarmon (E71642530) – Drug Possession

Plain clothes Police stopped a woman around 8pm on 27 September 2019 while riding a bicycle near the intersection of Pacific Highway and Longueville Road.   Police searched the woman allegedly locating 2.7 grams of the drug “Ice”, prescription drugs and tools which Police allege are for breaking locks.  Police also allege that the bicycle ridden by the woman was stolen.   The woman was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station.  The woman was charged with drug possession, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and goods in custody suspected to be stolen.  She is due to appear at Hornsby Court on 16 October.

Details of Charges Laid Against Man Involved in Lane Cove Manhunt

A 48 year old Bexley man has been charged with several offences including Break, Enter and Steal, Fraud and using a weapon to prevent lawful detention.  Police allege that the man committed multiple break, enter and steal offences during August and September in homes and businesses around Sydney including Willoughby and Mosman.  The man is also alleged to have stolen a credit card in Mosman which he later used fraudulently.  On 26 September, while being apprehended by Police in Lane Cove, the man allegedly threatened to stab a Police Officer with a screwdriver before running away.   The man was arrested in Bexley on 27 September after he allegedly ran from Police again, swam through the Georges River and climbed onto a boat.  The man then allegedly armed himself with a screwdriver and jerry can threatening to set the boat alight before surrendering to arresting Police.  The man has been refused bail and is due to appear in Sutherland Court on 15 October.  Details of the manhunt here.

Lane Cove North (E72841242) – Assault Mowbray Road

A 79 year old woman has reported being assaulted on Mowbray Road. The woman had just got off a bus west of Centennial Avenue around 7.30pm on 24 September when she was approached on the footpath and pushed.   The offender is described as male, aged late 20’s with a slim build and wearing a black jacket and long black pants.  The woman kicked back at the man and he ran away.  Anyone with information should contact Police.
