Lane Cove News Week in Review 14th to 20th February 2021

We are back.  Facebook has reinstated our page, and we can continue to provide free local news.

Lunar New Year

The Lunar New year was celebrated in style on Friday 19th February.  The Lane Cove Plaza has been decorated with red lanterns.  The Rotunda has been decorated with an art installation called Wishing Clouds. The Wishing Trees inspired artist Natalie Tso she visited as a child resulting in this colourful and interactive installation. On Friday, children of all ages enjoyed writing their wishes on scrolls and throwing them into the qipao clouds.

The highlight was the lion dance which took place in the Plaza and The Canopy.

Data Centre for Mowbray Road

Microsoft is planning a six-storey, $141 million data centre, at 706 Mowbray Road Lane Cove North. The property was acquired for $63m from VIMG (Vic Investments Management Group).

The 1.7ha property comprises a multi-tenanted office warehouse building with three floors of office space, rear warehouse units and undercover and external car parking spaces. The site is currently known as Media and Technology Park. If the plans are approved, the existing building will be demolished. Find out more here.

New Business Alert

Coming soon to Lane Cove – a new wine shop called Birdwood Cellars located opposite MBE Lane Cove.

Birdwood Cellars told us:

“We are passionate about wine, so much that we decided to expand our little wine bar wine list into a shop where you can take home something you love from our ever-evolving cellar. We will also have some of our very own gourmet produce at some point too. Unique & bespoke wines from awesome little winemakers, funky winemaking techniques, unusual locations and climates and more from Europe and Australia. We cannot wait to share this with you.

From the Team at Little Red Robin Restaurant & Wine Bar (two doors up from the shop!) *Liquor Licence Pending.

Another Attempted Break-In

A roving reporter told us that a group of men tried to break into their house on Delta Road on Wednesday (17th February) between 2-3 am.  We were told the following:

“3 males (not teenagers) gained entry and have gone through the garage and walked around the outside perimeter. They were fortunately not able to gain entry to the main part of the house. The men without shoes, face covered & gloves on were aware that cameras were recording them, the dogs barked, and they were aware people were awake inside, but they remained calm and continued their rummaging.

Police have been notified and have suggested additional vigilance. We expect them to return!”  Our cover photo shows CCTV images.
