Vale Brent Courtney – A True Gentleman

If you’ve ever purchased or sold a property in Lane Cove, chances are you would have met Brent Courtney from McGrath Real Estate Agents.

On Sunday, 22 May 2022, Brent Courtney passed away at the age of 48 after a courageous battle with cancer.  He is survived by his wife Sally and his three beautiful children, Ashton, Walker and Piper.

Brent Courtney was a well known and respected Lane Cove real estate agent.

For most of his nearly 30 years career, he has worked around the Longueville, Northwood, Chatswood West, Lane Cove, Riverview and Greenwich areas.  As an exceptional sales professional, Brent is perpetually ranked in the top three agents at McGrath. In 2021, he set new Suburb Records in Longueville, Northwood, Riverview and Linley Point.

Brent’s dad was a builder, and Brent spent many hours working with him during school holidays.  Brent often said it was hard work, so I thought selling real estate was easier than building homes!!

Brent left school in 1991 and got into real estate in 1993.

Brent attributed his success to understanding the industry and believed his job was not about the business of selling a home but about the business of relating to people. He saw every sale as a strategic business transaction, and the most important part of that transaction is connecting to everyone involved and alleviating concerns.

Brent has been a mentor to many young agents and is currently working with Sam Lloyd.

Brent sold a property for ITC, and he was a dream to deal with.  Everyone we have spoken to about Brent describes him as a true gentleman and a larger than life character.  They have all commented that he always had a smile and a wave whenever you saw him in Lane Cove.

John McGrath was a huge supporter of Brent. ITC spoke to John at a function, and he was very generous in his praise of Brent.

During the COVID19 lockdown, Brent would call ITC frequently with ideas about how we could stimulate local business.

Brent and his wife Sally were huge supporters of local schools, charities and sporting clubs.

Brent and the McGrath team sponsored St Michaels Primary School functions, the St Michaels Church Hugh Garage Sale and sports teams like the Lane Cove Junior Rugby Union Club. Brent and Sally also ensure each year that McGrath collected for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.

The Club posted the following message on their Facebook Page:

“We are very sad to share the news that Brent Courtney passed away on Sunday after an exceptionally courageous battle with illness.
Brent and Sally Courtney have been fantastic members of Lane Cove Junior Rugby club for many years. Both are very generous with their time, friendship, enthusiasm and support of our club.
Sons Ashton and Walker were both popular players who played right up to the Under 15s/16s at the club.
Brent Courtney is a big loss to our club and to the Lane Cove community. A highly successful real estate agent, a loving family man and a friend to so many. He will be greatly missed.
Our hearts go out to Sally, Ashton, Walker and Piper and their family and friends.”
The Lane Cove Community will miss Brent.
He was a Lane Cove local legend.  Our thoughts are with Sally,  Ashton, Walker, Piper, and his family.
Family and friends of Brent are invited to attend a Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul at St Joseph’s College Chapel, Marks Street Hunters Hill, on Friday 27th May 2022, commencing at 10:30 am, followed by a Private Burial.
