Lane Cove Local Norma Tracey’s Book and Toy Drive for Koolyangarra Aboriginal Family Centre

    Norma Tracey AM is a Lane Cove Local and President of Strong Mothers Inc.

    In 2022 Norma was awarded the Cath Leary Social Justice Award.

    For more than 60 years, Norma has dedicated her life to working with mothers, particularly new Aboriginal mothers, fathers, and children, helping them to recover and heal from trauma and intergenerational trauma. The award recognised Norma’s outstanding work, effort, and lifelong commitment to upholding human rights and dignity.

    Norma has published countless papers, and books, held many lectures and provided public presentations.

    Norma’s latest work, From Trauma to Healing, culminates 62 years of clinical work. It is peer-reviewed and highly acclaimed.

    In 2021, Norma was recognised as an outstanding Australian and awarded Australia Day honours as a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order or Australia, for significant service to mental health and Indigenous children and their families.

    Norma works with Koolyangarra Aboriginal Family Centre. The Centre is an Aboriginal services hub running Aboriginal programs and providing a base for outreach services in the Penrith area. It is part of Nepean Community and Neighbourhood Services (NCNS).

    Services include but are not limited to playgroups, girl’s dance groups, women’s groups, men’s groups, carer support groups, art groups, family support, sport and recreation, young men’s mentoring program, parenting workshops, young mums’ group, boxing academy and cultural programs.

    Book/Present Christmas Drive

    Norma has started a Present/Book Drive for Christmas.

    Norma is working with Lane Cove’s Men’s Shed, who will be making age-appropriate wooden toys.  She would also like to give Children books written by Indigenous writers.
