Welcome to our Lane Cove Business Round-Up for August/September/October 2023
This article is about new businesses, closed businesses, renovations, refurbishments, businesses for sale, Commercial Development Applications, and businesses that support ITC by becoming part of our Local Business Directory.
We start this edition of our Business Round Up with a fact check.
McDonalds is NOT opening in Lane Cove
In the Cove has been inundated with emails, phone calls, texts (and smoke signals) with people asking when McDonalds is opening in Lane Cove. This rumour has started due to two things:
- A 24/7 drive-thru McDonalds is planned for Chatswood East near Bunnings (expected to open in a year’s time); and
- The following photo appeared in The Village Observer’s 30th-anniversary special – Happy Birthday TVO. It was just an example of the type of news they have covered over their 30 years. It shows that people still love reading TVO (and of course ITC). Read us both and you will know everything there is to know about Lane Cove.

Butterflies Early Learning and Childcare
Our Program and Curriculum
At Butterflies we implement the Early Years Learning Framework to extend and enrich Children’s learning through opportunities which maximise their potential and develop the foundations for future success in learning.
Our program provides children with opportunities, experiences and routines that take into consideration each child’s developmental level and interests. Children are encouraged to select their own experiences from a range of choices, thus giving children control over their environment. Play-based problem-solving with other children and an adult is an early learning strategy that has a crucial effect on early brain development and should be the format for children entering the school system.
Routines are an important part of a young child’s play but they must remain flexible enough to take into consideration each child’s particular needs at the time.
The Centre provides a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that allow children to naturally progress through their own unique stage of learning. The curriculum features child-initiated experiences that allow young minds to be continually sharpened.
Staff members negotiate the curriculum with the children and actively seek input from parents in regards to their child’s likes, interests and events that occur in the home. Children’s interests are developed into a broad theme through which curriculum goals are achieved by introducing appropriate language (both oral and written), maths and science concepts. For example, block play provides ample opportunities for children to experiment with the maths concepts of counting, sorting, shape, size and special awareness. With the introduction of signs for roadways, work-areas and buildings children become aware of words and their purpose. Careful planning to introduce these topics, while children are playing, provides a vibrant education which has real meaning for the child.
Throughout the year, staff are compiling a portfolio for your child to keep at the end of the year. Parents are welcome to view this portfolio and to contribute information regarding their child at any time. Your child’s portfolio will be in electronic form and is given to parents at the end of the year on CD.
Staffing
The Centre is staffed in full accordance with the Education and Care Services National Regulations, as to the qualifications and levels of staffing in each room. Each of our three rooms is led by an Early Childhood Teacher. Our staff turn over rate is very low.
All staff at the Centre are required to hold a current First Aid Certificate, along with Anaphylaxis and Asthma qualifications, and the Centre encourages staff to undertake further studies and participate in professional development courses to revise and learn new skills, techniques etc.
