A Lane Cove local has launched a unique holiday celebration tree, which caught the interest of some of the sharks on Shark Tank. We asked the founder of Holiday Celebration Trees, Katie Rawal, to tell us all about it.
What is the Holiday Celebration Tree?
I am the designer and creator of the “Celebration Tree”, a space-saving, multi-tiered Christmas tree that can be used to display gifts, toys, Christmas villages, seasonal merchandise or even food and drinks! The product first launched in July 2022 and since then, we have received feedback from many delighted customers about how much they love their tree!
What gave you the idea for the Celebration Tree?
I had a moment of inspiration when I tripped over a present under the Christmas tree in my living room one year. I thought to myself – there must be a better solution to this! And that was how Holiday Celebration Trees started.
It is not only versatile and space-saving, it creates an amazing centrepiece for your home, shop or event! It has been a passion project for me as I love the Holidays and the way they bring loved ones and friends together and create memories.
Is There Anything Else Like the Celebration Tree on the Market?
I am very proud to say … No! I have spent considerable time developing and refining this product to be the first consumer and commercial-ready, multi-tiered Christmas tree available globally. That’s why we have worked hard to register design patents in multiple countries to protect the idea.
What About Sustainability?
Yes, a focus on sustainability has been a fundamental part of the product design process and material selection when creating the brand. That is why I elected to produce the platforms and garlands from 100% recycled materials, and the tree is also recyclable at the end of its life.
Why Did You Decide to Appear on Shark Tank?
It was a combination of personal development and professional motivation. I wanted to push myself to pitch and try something new, and even though I was terrified, I had a lot of support from my family and friends, who encouraged me to go for it!
From a brand perspective, I knew the Celebration Tree was visually interesting for TV and a great early-stage investment opportunity for the Sharks.
What Was It Like to Appear on Shark Tank?
It was a rollercoaster of excitement and nerves all at once!! The whole production process is very eye-opening, but meeting the Sharks off-camera was amazing. They were all very down-to-earth and relatable.
What Happened on the Show?
On the day of filming, it was surreal that I secured an investment from two incredible entrepreneurs – Robert Herjavec and Davie Fogarty! They’ve already brought such varied experiences, networks and perspectives to the brand.
The benefit of working with a Shark (or with anyone who has done what you are looking to do) is that they bring expertise and networks. The ability to avoid and learn from their mistakes can scale your business much faster. The saying, “If you want to be successful, do what successful people do”, is one I apply daily in my business.
What’s Your Next Step?
Since Shark Tank aired, and now that we are in the midst of the Christmas 2023 chaos, I haven’t really had a chance to plan what’s next!
My goal with this brand is to bring holiday joy to homes and businesses. And, your Celebration Tree doesn’t need to just be for Christmas! In fact, studies show people who put up their Christmas decorations early are happier! We have two Christmas trees displayed in our house year-round, and it creates such a magical feeling every day for my family and guests.

What’s Our Favourite Thing to Do in Lane Cove?
There are too many things to list! With the kids and our toy poodle, we enjoy the parks and bushland most weekends …. Also, a Summer afternoon at the Diddy is a must! You are never short of things to do in the area, and I love bumping into friends and connections out and about. It’s a great community – we are all so lucky to live here.
What’s Your Favourite Place to Have Coffee in Lane Cove?
All the coffee shops in Lane Cove are special (we are spoilt for choice here!), but my husband and I usually have a weekly breakfast meeting at Old Quarter, and I love their coffee.
