Summer Self Defence Boot Camp for High School Girls

When Miss ITC first started high school, I was worried about her catching the bus.  ITC remembers receiving a call from her telling me the school bus did not turn up and should she catch a regular bus.  She was standing at a bus stop on the Pacific Highway on her own.   In hindsight, I would have felt better if I had known she had been to a self-defence class or had some training on how to deal with strangers.

Self-Defence Bootcamp for Girls Going Into Year Six & Seven

Philotimo Freestyle Jujits is hosting another Self-Defence Bootcamp over the January 2024 school holidays.  Last year they offered this program for the first time, and it was a huge success. The course is aimed at building skills and confidence in girls heading to high school… (and girls already in high school, of course).

The Self-Defence Bootcamp will focus on these key areas:

  • How to Stay Safe on Public Transport
  • How to Deal with Unwanted Approaches
  • How to Effectively deal with bullies in real life and online
  • Immediate, practical physical and mental self-defence skills

In a world where girls are increasingly objectified and sexualized younger and younger, it teaches girls strong boundaries and how to say NO to things they don’t want to do.

Philotimo Freestyle Jujitsu founder Sensi Rose told ITC it provides a safe space for girls to learn jujitsu while also learning social skills, anti-bullying, good manners, organisation, and communication skills in a fun and healthy environment that promotes healthy boundaries and positive life skills.

Learning self-defence is empowering and changes a women’s beliefs about what they are capable of and what they are entitled to. Most importantly, it gives a sense of mastery over their own bodies, which creates lasting change in a girl’s self-worth and how they feel about themselves.

Don’t miss out on this amazing experience!

Reviews

“My daughter attended the self-defence boot camp last summer as we thought it would be a good idea for her to learn some self-defence skills before she started high school. She gained much more than just self-defence skills and loved the boot camp so much that she now trains at Philotimo 2-3 times a week. While already a quietly confident child, I have noticed that since starting at Philotimo she is braver and her overall confidence has increased along with her self discipline. She continues to become stronger both physically and mentally.

She not only learns self-defence skills but also important life skills in a fun, positive and supportive environment.

The instructors at Philotimo are all incredible role models that I’d like my daughter to continue to be around as she travels through the teen years and beyond. I highly recommend Philotimo regardless of age but especially for preteen and teen girls.”
