On Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, In the Cove held a Meet the Candidates Forum for Central Ward Candidates standing for election in the 2024 NSW Local Government Elections. The election date is September 14th, 2024.

We have compiled an article that provides information for voters and the candidates running in each ward here.

Below are In the Cove’s Founder Jacky Barker’s introductory comments on the Forum.

Meet The Candidates Central Ward Lane Cove Council Area Zoom Forum Recording – Introductory Remarks

We will be starting soon, but just a warning that we will be recording tonight’s forum, so you may want to turn off your camera if you don’t want your face recorded.

In the spirit of reconciliation, I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Cameraygal people.  I pay our respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Thank you for watching tonight’s, Meet the Candidates Forum for Central Ward.

ITC has covered numerous elections over the last 12 years, and we have to say that this election was unique in the absence of Liberal Party candidates.

The candidates will be speaking in the following order:

Bridget Kennedy (Independent)
Ken Quail (ALP)
Kathy Bryla
Caleb Taylor

We used a very advanced system of choosing the speaking order – we used a hat and some strips of paper.

All candidates were invited to the forum, and we just asked the lead candidate. You can see the rest of their team in our Meet the Candidates article on the front page of the website, and we will put a link in the chat.

Each candidate has five minutes. After the candidates’ presentations end, I will ask your questions to the candidates. Please put your questions in the chat. Each audience member can ask one question; if we have time, we will give people a chance to ask a second question.

Please do not write anything offensive, derogatory, or defamatory in the chat. You will be removed from the chat.

Do NOT answer any questions on behalf of the candidate.

Do not make any comments – just leave a question – it makes it easier for us to moderate.

The number one rule for tonight is Respect. Please do not make any personal attacks on a candidate or another person via chat. Putting your hand up for public office can be daunting at any time.

People who break our moderation rules will be expelled from the chat. We will issue warnings.

Please put your questions to all candidates.
