NSW Local Government Election Results
The NSW Electoral Commission distributed preferences on 30 September and declared the following had been elected to Lane Cove Council on 1 October: 6 Independents, 2 Labor, and 1 Green.

Jellybean Jam
On Saturday, 28 September 2024, Jellybean Jam lit up the Canopy with their joyful mix of 80s classics. The crowd lapped it up despite the odd drizzle of rain. In the Cove, I loved seeing the 80s-inspired outfits from the band and concertgoers.
Greenwich Baths Open for 2024/2025 Season
The historic Greenwich Baths reopened on the weekend. They are a great place for young and old swimmers to enjoy a refreshing dip while soaking up stunning harbour views.
Facilities include a cafe, picnic tables, sun lounges, sand toys, and bathrooms.
This season’s opening hours are:
🏊 October – 7:00 am to 6:00 pm
🏊 November – 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
🏊 December & January – 7:00 am to 8:00 pm
🏊 February – 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
🏊 March – 7:00 am to 6:00 pm

New Collection Point to Recycle Beauty Products
Now, you can recycle beauty product packaging at The Lane Cove Toy Library and The Sydney Library of Things, which are co-located at 47 Burns Bay Road. Drop off your recycling on Thursdays from 9.30 am to 12 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm and Saturdays from 9.30 am to 12 pm.
Use this Zero Waste Box to recycle any cosmetic, hair care, or skin care packaging brand. This includes items such as:
✅ Shampoo bottles and caps
✅ Conditioner bottles and caps
✅ Hair gel tubes and caps
✅ Hair spray bottles and triggers
✅ Hair paste plastic jars and caps
✅ Lip balm tubes
✅ Face soap dispensers and tubes

Community Recycling Centre Accepting Wearable Clothing
Thanks to multiple Roving Reporters who alerted us to the news that the Community Recycling Centre (CRC), located at 8 Waltham Street Artarmon, now accepts wearable textiles.
This includes shoes, Manchester, and accessories such as handbags, belts, scarves, and hats. You are allowed to donate up to 20kg per drop-off. Only donate good-quality clothes.
Greenwich Library Temporarily Closed
Greenwich Library has temporarily closed from Friday, 27 September, to Monday, 21 October, to allow for refurbishment. The closure includes the returns chute.
The library is celebrating its 60th birthday this year, so it is getting refreshed. This will include painting, new carpet and new shelves.
This milestone birthday will be celebrated on Saturday, 2 November 2024, as part of the Festival by the River.
Library services are available at Lane Cove and St Leonards Libraries.
As part of the birthday celebrations, there will be a Kids Mini Art Contest for children aged 3 to 14.
Children with library memberships can collect a mini canvas from Lane Cove, St Leonards, or The Yarn, Hunters Hill. Then, they can create a mini-masterpiece and return it to any library by Monday, 28 October 2024, to enter.
Prizes will be presented on Saturday, 2 November, at 11 am. More details and T&Cs here.
Lane Cove’s Biggest Garage Sale – 19th October 2024
The annual St Michaels Parish Garage Sale is on 19th October 2024. It is a huge garage sale and one not to miss.
If you would like to donate items, they accept most clean, saleable items in good condition.
They do not accept computers, outdated electronic equipment, clothes, soft toys, lounges, computer desks and cots.
They will receive goods for donation at the Parish Hall from 7th to 16th October from 8.30 am to 9.30 am and 2.30 – 3.30 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and Sunday, 13th October, following Mass.
Their popular and successful cake stall will also be there if you would like to donate a baked item. They will also accept an offer of a service (language or music lessons, making a birthday cake, lawn mowing, etc.) for Donate a Service. There are many ways to get involved. Baby Boomers Project
A Lane Cove local working at Sydney University is conducting an online survey to investigate whether existing aged care services and infrastructure will meet Baby Boomer expectations as they become octogenarians. We also plan to identify what changes will be required for support services and infrastructure to meet the needs of the Baby Boomer cohort.
People’s Choice Voting Now Open – 2024 Need a Lift? Youth Photography Competition
The Need a Lift? Youth Photography Competition is back in 2024. Young people were asked to capture a photo of something uplifting, positive or joyful in their life or community to celebrate positive mental health. Shortlisted photos will be showcased in public spaces and on social media throughout October in celebration of Mental Health Month.
You can get involved by voting for the People’s Choice Award. Voting closes on 31 October.
Business Alerts
Sushi Train opens tomorrow (3rd October 2024). It’s located between Subway and BFT on Birdwood Ave (across from The Alcott).
A food truck called ilSapore has opened in the Car Wash on Longueville Road (referred to by many as Epping Road – just opposite the Lane Cove Bus Interchange. In addition to your usual takeaway items, they are selling Arepas.
Mowbrew Coffee
Mowbrew Coffee is located on Mowbray Road West in Lane Cove North. They posted on Instagram that they were closing – this was not correct. They are, in fact, in the process of selling their business and are open and trading. We will let you know when the new owners take over.
Food & Wine by the River
One of Lane Cove’s favourite events, Food & Wine by the River, returns to Burns Bay Reserve on Sunday, 3 November 2024.
Lane Cove Council and Mudgee Wine Region have joined forces to bring nearly 20 of the Mudgee region’s wineries and local produce providers to Lane Cove for the event. The event will also include other food stalls, live music, and activities for the kids.
There will also be free face painting and games for the kids, and dogs are welcome (on leash).

Food & Wine by the River is a licensed event, and no BYO or glass is permitted.
Shrek The Musical Jr. Opens 8 November
The Lane Cove Theatre Company’s last production of the year is Shrek The Musical Jr. The season runs from 8th to 24 November 2024.

Lane Cove Swimmers at Nationals
Last weekend saw two young locals competing at the 2024 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships in Adelaide.
Congratulations to Eliza and Adelle from Lane Cove Swim Club. Special mention goes to Eliza, who made it to the two-age finals. Head coach Toby and their friends and families supported both swimmers in Adelaide.
