Lane Cove News Week in Review 13th November to 20th November 2024

Welcome to our week in review.

Seating On The Way For Crows Nest Metro/Bus Commuters

Crows Nest to Lane Cove commuters will soon have more than a leg to stand on after complaints were heard about the lack of seating at the bus stop outside Crows Nest Metro station.

After inquiries into the matter, North Sydney Council told ITC that, weather permitting, the Pacific Highway bus stop is expected to have seating installed within the next two weeks. The installation was previously delayed due to ongoing construction in the area.

Regulars along that route have previously complained that the bus stop has long wait times and no place to sit. The 252—the bus from Lane Cove to Crows Nest—comes on average every half an hour throughout the day.

Revenue NSW Time Delays in Issuing Infringement Notices for Lane Cove Council Parking

A roving reporter sent us a copy of a fine notice issued in November 2024 for an alleged incident in July 2024. Is this a denial of natural justice? Who remembers in November what you did in July? It would be different if we knew the ticketless system was accurate. Has anyone else experienced this time delay?   The roving reporter also advised us that they received the fine notice and the payment reminder on the same day.

Support Lane Cove West Public School’s Music Programme

Lane Cove West Public School needs your help. They are fundraising to buy instruments for their music programme.  See our cover photo.

The LCWPS Band is a parent/volunteer led band for students at Lane Cove West Primary School. This band provides children in years 3 to 6 with the opportunity to learn music and perform together in a band.
During COVID band numbers dropped materially and the school are only now rebuilding the band back to pre-COVID numbers. Unfortunately due to lack of funding, the band has not been able to replace instruments that have become worn out. The funds raised will used to help purchase a French Horn, Baritone, Trombone, Saxophone and amplifier for the band.
Jack & Co are have very generously offered to support the local community match each donation made up to $2,500 and will donate $1 for each coffee sold in their Lane Cove and Northwood stores for the month of November.
Please help in supporting the students of the LCWPS by contributing to this fundraiser.

Jack & Co Food Lane Cove and Northwood have come to the party and are donating $1.00 for every coffee sold in November to the cause!

So if you would like a coffee and want to help out the music programme – hop on over to Jack and Co Food.  You can also donate via their go fund me page – Please donate via this link.

This weekend (23rd and 24th of November), the Lane Cove 12ft Skiff Sailing Club (LC12ftSSC) will be hosting the first round of the 2024 12ft Skiff State Titles.

The start and finish will be in the Lane Cove River, with most of the racing happening on the lower reaches of the Parramatta River between Goat Island and Drummoyne.  Boats from Clubs around the harbour, including Abbotsford Sailing Club and Sydney Flying Squadron, will join Lane Cove’s fleet of 12 boats to compete in three races across the two days.

The schedule for the weekend is:

    Saturday 23rd November: Race 1, start 3pm

    Sunday 24th November: Race 2, start 2pm & Race 3, start after Race 2

Whilst you won’t be able to see the racing from the Clubhouse (located next to Longueville Wharf), spectators who gather at the Club from about 4:30 pm each day will be able to watch the boats return to the shore from the deck overlooking the river.

Following racing on both days, there will be a complementary BBQ put on for sailors and spectators.

Everyone is welcome so bring yourself, your friends and family along.
