Minis
LCJRC’s aim for this age group is to ensure that all the kids get involved, have a lot of fun and learn the game in a safe and positive environment.
Dads and mums help coach and manage the teams, and the atmosphere on and off the ground is one of great sportsmanship and community.
Each age group is different:
U5 – can participate in the ‘Mighty 5’s Program’ where they learn basic skills and have a fun game each Saturday, there is no training.
U6 – Touch rugby – 6 a side – there’s no tackling involved. No scoring is kept. It’s great fun to see the kids grow and make friends while immersing themselves in the game.
U7 – Touch rugby – 7 a side – there’s still no tackling but the games have more structure; more rules are added and everything flows a bit better. No scoring is kept.
U8 – Tackle – 7 a side – Ruck and maul starts at this age but there’s no contesting in the scrums or line outs – safety is rule number one and it’s a very controlled environment with each Coach on the field.
U9 – similar to U8 but with two extra players in each team.
All coaches and assistant coaches are SMART Rugby Qualified. Practically, this means they know the rules, the safety drills and have great knowledge to pass on to the kids.
GAMES
The minis play on Saturday mornings. Home games are played at Tantallon. Away games are played at a variety of ovals through Sydney’s North Shore. U5 team games are on Saturday mornings at Chatswood.

Play Safe
If you or your child is playing sport, make sure you invest in a Mouth Guard.
Did you know more than 5 million teeth are knocked out during sporting activities every year? What is even worse is that it’s estimated between 30% and 50% of these injuries could have been prevented or would have been less severe had a mouthguard been worn.
Find out more here about mouthguards from www.appledental.com.au
