Ladies of the 80s March 2025

Welcome to our week in review.

    Water Outage Affects Multiple Suburbs

On Friday, 7 March 2025, residents and businesses across several suburbs experienced disruptions to their water supply following a series of water main breaks. The outages were reported in St Leonards, Artarmon, Greenwich, Crows Nest, and North Sydney.

At approximately 12:30 PM on 7 March 2025, reports surfaced of a water outage affecting homes and businesses across these areas. Sydney Water acknowledged the situation on its website, confirming multiple outages and dispatching teams to investigate the source of the issue.

By 1:42 PM, a video taken by one of our roving reporters near 31 Kimberley Avenue in Lane Cove revealed the severity of the problem. A resident on Gatacre Street reported that they had been without water since 11:36 am. Sydney Water confirmed that repairs were underway, with water being turned off in sections to facilitate the work. Notably, areas near the Pacific Highway in Artarmon were also affected.

By early evening the leak on Kimberly Avenue in Lane Cove had been successfully repaired, and crews had cleared the area. However, due to multiple leaks throughout the affected areas, it remained unclear whether water had been fully restored in all locations.

Sydney Water reported that approximately 136 properties were impacted by low or no water pressure.

A separate issue in St Leonards also occurred earlier that morning. A burst water main caused flooding in the area, with Sydney Water crews on-site by 7:00 AM.

Sydney Water noted repairs were expected to continue throughout the day, and the water supply would be temporarily turned off in certain locations.

If you experience water issues you can:

Vale Margaret Tanner – Lane Cove’s Keenest Golfer

She was the beloved wife of Noel (deceased), the loving mother of Robert, and sister of Alice Nagle (deceased) and Robert Power (deceased). She was much loved by all her family, the Lane Cove Golfing community, friends and neighbours.

Margaret was a foundation member of the Lane Cove Country Club. She was part of the crew that built the golf course with both her hands and financial support, and she proudly became the first member to tee off in a competition at the Lane Cove Golf Course in 1964.  She was also a war widow and worked hard to raise her son.

Small Business Soiree at The Gallery Lane Cove

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, some of the ITC team attended a Small Business Soiree at The Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios. Lane Cove Council organised the event as part of its Women’s Week and International Women’s Day celebrations.

Attendees heard from Lane Cove Mayor Merri Southwood and Service NSW about how they can support small businesses. Liana Rossi’s keynote address was entertaining and insightful. Liana is an advertising, marketing, and social media creative and media commentator. She shared her experience, including working as part of MONA’s marketing team, starting her own consultancy, and working with big brands.

Liana spoke about finding and maintaining her personal brand, and how she applies those lessons to her professional work.

Guests were also offered a curator-led tour of The Gallery and time to network with other small business owners.

Ladies of The 80s Were Simply The Best

    Good Luck Lauren!!

You may have seen our recent article about the Special Winter Olympics Australian team welcoming its newest representative, Lane Cove local Lauren Kerjan.

The Games will be held in Turin, Italy, from March 8, 2025. 37 Australian athletes with intellectual abilities will make the trip.

The 31-year-old will compete in both the Giant Slalom and Alpine Skiing and is the only woman on the NSW team.

    Blood Donors Urgently Needed

Blood donors are urgently needed as the impact of Cyclone Alfred has led to a shortfall of more than 1,000 donations a day. Donate this week to help us make up the shortfall caused by the need to close donor centres and mobile units in QLD and northern NSW.
Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is a national organisation and can move blood around as needed, but can’t replenish stocks without people donating.
To book a donation call 13 14 95, visit www.lifeblood.com.au or download the Donate Blood App.
Australian Red Cross Lifeblood was forced to close 22 donor centres across Queensland and Northern NSW due to the cyclone.

Executive Director of Donor Experience, Cath Stone said the safety of donors and staff was Lifeblood’s utmost priority.

“We do not want anyone putting themselves in danger during this weather event. We are calling on people in other parts of the country to step up and book a donation so we can make up this shortfall.

“Blood is a critical resource and there are patients across Australia, including in impacted areas, who are reliant on blood and plasma donations.”
She said additional blood supplies were pre-emptively sent to hospitals in affected areas to counter any possible impact on blood delivery services with further stocks sent from unaffected states.

    Local Sports

On Sunday, 2 March 2025, the Lane Cove Junior Rugby Union Club launched its 2025 season with a vibrant Try Rugby Day at The Diddy.

The event welcomed families from across the community to engage in an afternoon filled with activities and rugby drills. Children delighted in a bouncy castle, face painting, and games, while parents relaxed with refreshments, enjoying the lively atmosphere.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for new families to acquaint themselves with the club and introduce their children to the sport of rugby. Club representatives were on hand to discuss the upcoming season and assist with registrations, which are now open for children aged five and up. The event successfully fostered community spirit and enthusiasm for the sport, setting a positive tone for the season ahead.

Telstra Pit Covers Removed – Was Someone Looking for Copper Cables?

A roving reporter advised that pit covers had been removed from a Telstra Pit (still with the old PMG logo) at 2 Birdwood Avenue.  The roving reporter had reported it to Lane Cove Council.  ITC also reported to Telstra that the pit covers had been removee.

When ITC spoke to Telstra, the operator noted that a Telstra maintenance team would never leave a pit like this and would always put up barriers.
