Community Golf Day and BBQ at Lane Cove Golf Course to Raise Funds for the Nic Corish Trust

The Nic Corish Memorial Golf Day will be held on 10th May 2025 at the Lane Cove Golf Course.

This is the sixth time the event will be held. Players compete for the Nic Corish Cup and other prizes. The entry fee is $40.00 and includes a free BBQ. All proceeds go to the Nic Corish Trust.

To date, the Lane Cove golfing community has raised over $ 45,000 for the Nic Corish Trust, which supports young people’s mental health and suicide prevention. A beautiful memorial bubbler and garden have been constructed on the 3rd tee at the highest part of the course near the corner of Phoenix and Joseph Street, Lane Cove.

    Who was Nic Corish?

Nic’s father Andrew, told ITC the following:

“Nic was a wonderful young man in our opinion. So kind and caring.  He was a keen local sportsman, participating in Lane Cove Soccer, Cricket and Tennis teams.

But he has a particular passion for golf and we played together on Saturdays for about 8 years, including representing the club together in inter-club competitions.

It was one of life’s great pleasures to play a sport with your children.

Nic completed a master’s degree in economics and seemed to have the world at his feet. But something was wrong. We didn’t pick it up. He lived in London for two years. On 1 May 2018, we received the worst phone call a parent can receive.

We don’t know why it happened.  Why couldn’t he see that he was of such inestimable value to us, his family, and his friends? But depression can take a terrible toll. It can be so secretive.

It may seem silly. But I feel it would not have happened if he had stayed here and we had continued to play golf.

It is such a wonderful game, particularly when you can share it with family members and be part of a friendly community.

So the Golf Club sponsors this annual family golf day.

The primary purpose is to honour Nic’s memory by reminding people to speak about these issues with family and friends.

We also have a fun day and encourage community members who are golfers to consider joining our caring community. To raise a bit of money for the Trust Fund. But mainly just to participate and enjoy the day.  Particularly anyone who could use a good game of golf.  Hope to see you there.”

How Can You Play in the Nic Corish Memorial Day?

Everyone who plays golf in the community is warmly invited to participate in the Nic Corish Memorial Golf Day.

The Golf Day takes place at the Lane Cove Golf Course, Gamma Street Lane Cove, on Saturday 10th May 2025.

Hit-off times are from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. There are 48 places to fill, so get in early.

There is a free BBQ afterwards.

The event is a  2-ball stableford team event. Golf club members would know what that means.

But for others who have a reasonable standard of golf but are not club members, you are warmly invited to participate. The Lane Cove Golf Club members will explain the event and link you up with members who will take care of you. You will even be allocated a handicap for the day. It is open to everyone, women, juniors, and men. A reasonable standard of golf is expected, but nothing too fancy.

The Lane Cove Club particularly welcomes people interested in joining the golf club, once the new facilities are completed and the course returns in its former pristine glory.

To register, contact  Andrew Corish [email protected] or call 0414 913 096.
