On Sunday, 4th May 2025, Lane Cove residents woke up in a new federal electorate.  We now live in Bennelong.

Our new Federal Member is Jerome Laxale (Labor).  This is the first time that Labor has held on to Bennelong in two consecutive elections.  It is also the first time that the Labour Party has held a seat that includes an area east of the Lane Cove River in the Lower North Shore.

    Jerome Laxale Says Thanks

ITC asked Jerome Laxale what he would like to say to Lane Cove locals about his win.

Jerome Laxale told ITC the following:

“I am very thankful for the vote of confidence from the people of Lane Cove and Hunters Hill.

The level of support gives me confidence to work for everyone and to be as highly engaged as I was before the election.

I will now set about ensuring our promises, such as an urgent care clinic in Chatswood and the $1.3 million for a cultural hub in Lane Cove, are delivered.  I will have a mobile office in the Lane Cove Plaza this Saturday to thank the voters.”

    Scott Yung Concedes

Scott Yung posted on his Facebook page that he had congratulated Jerome Laxale and his post included the following:

“It’s been one of my life’s biggest honours to be your Liberal Candidate in Bennelong.

This community is full of inspiring people. Mums and dads who help set up Saturday sport. People who organise activities for our elderly. People who raise awareness for important causes like domestic violence.

Thank you to every person who participated in our great democracy over the weekend. I cherished every conversation, handshake and your input.”

How Many Voters are There in Bennelong?

There are 125 986 voters in Bennelong. As of Monday, 5 pm, 5th May 2025 – 101 892 votes had been counted.

The polling booths were busy on Election Day, and at one stage at Mowbray Public School, there was a 50-minute wait to vote, with some voters leaving and going to Lane Cove West.  Those ingenious P&F volunteers even had a mobile democracy snag trolley to keep people fed and hydrated in the voting queue.
