Update On Redevelopment Plans For 300 Burns Bay Rd

In May 2025 we brought you the news that the Housing Development Authority had declared the redevelopment of 300 Burns Bay Road (the former SAS building) a State Significant Development (SSD), and approved plans for a 12–13 storey building comprising approximately 215 apartments, including 15% affordable housing. This pathway meant the project bypassed Lane Cove Council.

As part of the SSD process, a formal development application has now been submitted and is available for public comment. The associated documents including architectural plans, environmental studies, visual impact report and more have been lodged and are currently on public exhibition.

Read our background and summary of the application here.

The submission period ends on Tuesday 21 April 2026. Submit your feedback here.

Development Application Lodged For Mars Rd Data Centre

A major development application has been lodged for a new data centre on Mars Road in Lane Cove West.

The proposal includes a three-storey facility, significant power and water usage, and is located close to residential homes and a local school.

With multiple data centres now clustered within the area, questions are being raised around noise, environmental impact and long-term effects on the community.

Submissions are now open if you want to have your say. Read more in our article.

    Marjorie York Playground Upgrade Progressing

We popped past the playground on the corner of Tambourine Bay Rd & Sofala Ave in Riverview earlier this week and it looked like it’s really close to being finished.

It was scheduled for completion around 7 April, but there are still a few final touches to go. The Easter long weekend and some wet weather probably didn’t help.

The steamroller is still there! It’s a total local favourite, even if it’s not technically play equipment.

From what we could see the upgrade includes more climbing, active play and open space for families. Check out our peek through the fences below.

If any of our Roving Reporters are nearby please let us know if it’s reopened. Once it’s done we would be keen to hear community feedback.

Council Lodges Formal Objection To Bus Stop Closures

In March 2026 two bus stops in Lane Cove were permanently closed with little to no notice given to commuters or Lane Cove Council.

The stops are Burns Bay Rd at Garthowen Ave (206650) and Epping Rd after Fraser St (2066247).

Council has written to Transport for NSW and Busways detailing the impact of these changes on local residents as well as the ongoing issue of bus service reliability in the area.

Key concerns of the closures include the increased distances less mobile passengers now need to travel to reach the next available bus stop, and the lack of consideration and consultation with residents and Council prior to the closures.

You can read more on Council’s website.

    General Information

Charity Bins Removed From Outside LCM On Rosenthal Ave

In preparation for redevelopment of the LCM St Andrew’s site on the corner of Rosenthal Ave and Finlayson St the two charity clothing bins have been removed.

There are four op shops in Lane Cove that accept donations; Lifeline, Red Cross,

Anglicare and Vinnies. Only donate during opening hours. Dumping, even outside a charity shop, is illegal.

School Zones Resume Monday 20 April

Term 2 of the school calendar officially starts on Monday 20 April 2026

Some schools have staff development days on Monday and Tuesday however school zones are enforceable from the official beginning of the term.

So slow down around schools and observe the 40km/hr speed limit during the stated times.

Did you know it’s not just speeding that is a problem in school zones? There’s a host of traffic offences that carry fines and loss of demerit points in a school zone. See the current list from NSW Govt here.

Australia Posts Issues Warning About Marketplace Scammers

Australia Post is urging Australians to stay alert when using online marketplaces, warning of a rise in scams targeting buyers and sellers.

The organisation says scammers are impersonating buyers and sending fake links or QR codes that appear to arrange delivery through Australia Post. These links direct users to convincing fraudulent websites designed to capture personal and financial information.

Australia Post emphasised it does not act as a payment intermediary for marketplace transactions and will never ask customers to provide sensitive details via links, emails, texts or phone calls.

Customers are being advised to avoid clicking on unexpected links, only use official Australia Post channels for tracking parcels, and treat any request involving payments or verification through third-party links as suspicious.
