Residents have until Thursday, 10 September 2026 to comment on the Draft Burns Bay Reserve Masterplan before Lane Cove Council closes the public exhibition period. If you haven’t yet looked at the plans this is the last chance to weigh in before feedback.
This Is The Third Round Of Consultation
The draft plan is the product of two earlier rounds of community consultation. Stage 1, run in late 2023, drew 207 survey responses and 12 written submissions, with residents calling for improvements without over-development, an upgraded playground, better drainage on the turfed area, and retention of the off-leash dog space. Stage 2 followed from 24 February to 7 April 2026, with consultants Brooks Community Engagement building on that earlier feedback to establish what should be prioritised in the plan.

Council has now taken that input and endorsed a Draft Masterplan for public exhibition. It’s built around eight landscape principles: engaging with the waterfront, strengthening bushwalk and foreshore connections, streamlining vehicle movement and storage, preserving the central open grassed area, upgrading and making safe the amenities, rejuvenating and diversifying play and fitness options, creating a new park entry, and linking the bush to the foreshore.
For background on the park itself and what’s currently on offer, including the boat ramp, playground, off-leash dog area and kayak share facility, see our earlier coverage of the Burns Bay Reserve consultation.
What The Draft Masterplan Proposes
The draft plan sets out specific changes across the reserve:
- Waterfront and creek: new seawall and waterfront improvements with additional seating and a terraced tidal frontage, an upgraded creek crossing/bridge with a future path connection towards Linley Point, improved creek ecological function, and a new footpath to a bridge along Tennyson Creek.
- Parking and boating: more trailer parking and dinghy storage, plus resurfaced, perpendicular and accessible car parking.
- Sportsfield and grassed area: drainage and surface improvements to the grassed area, and sportsfield upgrades including a realigned cricket pitch, new line marking and lighting.
- Facilities: a new amenities building and a new pedestrian park entry.
- Play and recreation: a new playground with nature play, a flying fox and a multi-play unit, a new multi-use hardcourt, and a loop path with seating and lighting.
- Stormwater: water-sensitive design work on an existing kerb inlet pit.

How to Have Your Say
There are three ways to submit feedback before the Thursday deadline:
- Online survey: Complete the survey via the Have Your Say Burns Bay Reserve Masterplan page.
- Written submission: Email [email protected] with the subject line “SU9543 Draft Burns Bay Reserve Masterplan”.
- Read first: Before submitting read the Draft Burns Bay Reserve Masterplan Report in full, so your feedback responds to what’s actually on the table.
What Happens Next
Once the exhibition period closes, community feedback from this stage will inform any adjustments to the masterplan and address concerns raised. Indicative staging for delivering improvements, based on what the community identified as priorities, will also be built in. The updated masterplan, together with the consultation results, will then go to Council for adoption.
